Job description

Are you looking for a Database Administrator role with the opportunity to learn and develop?

Sopra Steria are currently recruiting for a Database Administrator to join a busy team supporting key public sector clients. This is very much a learning and development opportunity for someone with some existing experience working in the data sphere looking to grow their skillset and become a fully-fledged DBA. From a technical perspective this role will be working predominantly in patching on Oracle E-Business Systems with scope in the future to work on Oracle Fusion.
This role is home based with very occasional travel to one of our UK hubs.

Due to the sensitivity of the projects this role will be working on, we are only able to progress with candidates eligible for Developed Vetting (DV) clearance.

What you'll be doing:
  • Selecting the patches needed for multiple products (Exadata/GRID/DB/E-Business/Weblogic/JAVA/OPA/OHS/APEX)
  • Patch Analysis to include the order of applying patches, all the pre-requisite and post requisite patches and configuration steps needed for fellow DBAs to follow
  • Liaise with other teams (payroll, functional, developers) when additional actions are required during the patch process
  • Download and apply the patches to systems and produce DBA instruction, so an experienced DBA can follow without having to do any further research on MoS.
  • Investigate patch errors or discrepancies and understand how to interrogate log files, Alert log in the database
  • Liaise with Testing team, PMs, management when required
  • Liaise with other DBAs when required

What you'll bring:
  • Comfortable with My Oracle Support, how to plough through their documentation. Be prepared to ask for help too.
  • Understanding and exposure to Oracle GRID/Database RDBMS 19C
  • Exadata, RAC (multiple database and Apps servers per system) - desired but not totally necessary
  • CDB/PDB and Dual FS understanding (Container Database & Pluggable Database and dual file system)
  • Exposure to applying patches especially via ADOP on E-Business systems

If you're interested in this role but not sure if your skills and experience are exactly what we're looking for, please do apply, we'd love to hear from you!
