Welcome to VERCIDA website.
Skip to main contentSanctuary is a housing and care provider. We were set up over 50 years ago to deliver housing and care to those who need it, and that original purpose still guides us today. Throughout our history, acquisitions, mergers and development have enabled Sanctuary to grow into one of the largest not-for-profit housing associations in the UK.
As a not-for-profit organisation, we don’t make profits for shareholders. Instead, we invest all the income we make into our homes and services for the benefit of our customers.
We own and manage around 125,000 units of accommodation. This makes us one of the largest housing associations in the country. Johnnie Johnson Housing is a subsidiary of the Group. Our size, effective governance and careful financial management means we have significant financial strength.
Looking for a new job? We want to be a diverse and inclusive organisation where our people thrive and feel comfortable simply being themselves.
We believe that everyone should feel included and able to realise their potential. If you share our values and are talented and ambitious, we want to hear from you.
We employ around 14,000 people throughout the UK, and our commitment to our people is evidenced by our Gold Investors in People accreditations.
We offer a wide variety of types of work, including professional, managerial, technical, nursing, care, customer service, maintenance and administrative roles.

We act with honesty and integrity in all that we do.
We’ll do the right thing, even if it’s not the easy thing.
At Sanctuary, we know that when we feel we belong and we can be ourselves, we are more likely to perform well and fulfil our potential.
That’s great for us as individuals and great for the organisation too – being able to call on diverse perspectives means better decision making, more innovation and more insight into our customers' lived experiences. This helps shape fairer, more empathetic and responsive services.
Inclusion is one of our core values.
We know having a range of ideas and opinions makes a difference. We encourage and welcome applications from people from diverse backgrounds to support this mission.
We will make adjustments throughout your application process, in line with Sanctuary’s commitment to our Disability Confident employer status.
The things that matter to us are:
Developing a culture in which all people feel valued, respected, and comfortable to be themselves
Valuing difference of all kinds
Working to ensure everyone is treated fairly, focusing on eliminating discrimination, harassment or victimisation
Removing barriers and recognising that people may need to be treated differently to get equality of opportunity
We have a diversity and inclusion strategy, Inclusion for All, which sets out how we plan to achieve those goals, and how we’ll track our progress.
Our second Inclusion for All strategy runs from 2024-2026 and aims to broaden the scope of our diversity and inclusion work, with a greater focus on our customers, being data informed, and ensuring that we’re delivering equity in our workplaces and the communities we serve.
We worked closely with our colleagues and our customers to develop the strategy, listening to their diverse voices to understand how we can design and deliver services that truly meet their needs.
Watch the video below to hear our Diversity and Inclusion Manager, Nicky Ensert, talk more about Inclusion for All.
