Job Title

Director Marketing, Sage Retail

Job Description

Sage Retail is looking for an experienced, commercially focused Director of Marketing to rebuild and lead our marketing function.

This is a pivotal leadership role with direct accountability for creating the pipeline needed to support our growth ambitions. You'll shape and execute an integrated demand-generation strategy across inbound, outbound, account-based marketing, paid media, content, customer and partner channels.

You'll inherit a newly formed multidisciplinary marketing team and have the opportunity to build the structure, capabilities and ways of working needed for success. Just as importantly, you'll bring Marketing, Sales and Partners closer together around shared commercial goals.

This isn't a role where you'll simply set the strategy and delegate the execution. We're looking for a builder and a doer. Someone who can set the direction, establish the foundations and work alongside the team to turn ambitious plans into measurable results.

This is a hybrid role that will work in the Newcastle office 3 days a week and 2 from home.

Key Responsibilities

What you'll be doing

You'll take accountability for Marketing's contribution to pipeline and revenue, building an integrated demand-generation strategy that connects every part of the marketing mix. You will:

• Build pipeline across inbound, outbound, ABM, paid media, content, customer and partner marketing.
• Translate commercial targets into clear campaign, channel and pipeline plans.
• Establish meaningful measures across pipeline creation and influence, conversion, velocity, acquisition cost and return on marketing investment.
• Partner closely with Sales on target accounts, buying groups, propositions, campaign priorities and follow-up.
• Create strong operating rhythms across Marketing, Sales, Partners and Revenue Operations.
• Use performance data to optimise activity and focus investment on the areas delivering the greatest impact.
• Build and lead a high-performing marketing team

You'll lead a newly formed team spanning ABM, paid media, campaigns and content, partner marketing and customer marketing.

• You'll define the capabilities, processes and ways of working required to create a high-performing B2B marketing organisation, building a culture centred on pace, experimentation, ownership and accountability.
• You'll coach and develop your team while staying close enough to the work to remove barriers and continuously improve execution.
• Create an integrated demand-generation engine.

You'll bring our channels together to create connected programmes that engage the right retail and ecommerce audiences throughout the buying journey.

This will include:

• Strengthening our inbound marketing approach.
• Developing effective outbound programmes alongside Sales.
• Building targeted and segmented campaigns for priority markets, customer profiles, verticals and named accounts.
• Connecting content, paid media, ABM, customer advocacy and partner marketing.
• Ensuring campaigns are measured against commercial outcomes, not simply marketing activity.
• Accelerate partner-led growth

Partners will be an important part of our growth strategy.

• You'll work closely with our Partner organisation to increase partner-sourced and partner-influenced pipeline through shared plans, campaigns and targets.
• You'll strengthen partner marketing, enablement, co-marketing and referral programmes while using your influence to drive results across a matrix organisation.
• Transform the Sage Retail digital experience
• You'll lead the redesign and redevelopment of the Sage Retail website, transforming it into a stronger pipeline-generation channel.
• You'll improve our positioning, navigation, content, conversion journeys, search visibility and campaign landing pages, ensuring our digital experience reflects the needs of modern retail and ecommerce businesses.
• Evolve our marketing technology, data and AI capabilities
• You'll shape Sage Retail's marketing technology roadmap, ensuring our technology, data and processes enable effective segmentation, personalisation, automation, attribution and reporting.
• You'll also identify practical ways to use AI across research, targeting, content, campaigns, personalisation, analysis and reporting, helping the team achieve greater impact with focused resources.
• Lead our strategic narrative and thought leadership
• You'll own and strengthen the strategic narrative for Sage Retail, turning our strategy, market position and customer value into a clear and compelling story.
• You'll ensure that narrative comes consistently to life across campaigns, digital channels, sales enablement, partner programmes and executive communications.
• Working with customers, partners, Product and senior leaders, you'll also build a thought-leadership platform that strengthens our relevance and authority across the retail and ecommerce industry.

We're particularly interested in candidates who have:
• You'll bring significant B2B marketing leadership experience, ideally gained within SaaS, retail technology, ecommerce, ERP or a related technology environment.
• Built or transformed a marketing function and created a repeatable pipeline-generation engine.
• Delivered measurable pipeline across inbound, outbound, ABM, paid media, content, customer and partner marketing.
• A strong commercial mindset and understand the connection between marketing investment, pipeline, revenue and customer growth.
• Led website transformation and digital conversion initiatives.
• Owned or significantly developed a modern marketing technology stack.
• Strong knowledge of marketing analytics, funnel performance, attribution and ROI.
• Led multidisciplinary teams through periods of change and transformation.
• Worked successfully within complex, matrix organisations, influencing stakeholders outside their direct reporting line.
• Developed strategic market positioning, narratives and executive-level thought leadership.
• Practical experience using AI in marketing, or a strong curiosity and appetite to develop this further.
• The communication skills and credibility to partner with senior leaders across Sales, Product, Partners, Customer Success and Finance.
• Experience with Salesforce, HubSpot and 6Sense.
