Job description

Actuarial Specialist

Salary: Up to £70,000

We are recruiting for an Actuarial Specialist to join the Experience Analysis and Assumptions part of the Actuarial Reporting team, which sits within the UK IWR Chief Actuary's team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a recently qualified or nearly qualified actuary to become a key person in the assumption setting process, and in so doing gain exposure to a broad range of technical issues/techniques and get first-hand understanding of how decisions are made through our governance process.

A bit about the job:

In this role, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating the assumption setting process (liaising closely with colleagues within the team who are responsible for delivery of proposals in specific assumption areas), keeping track of overall impacts on all the different measures and providing updates to senior management on these, ensuring efficient management of risk and control issues within the team, and contributing to the development of proposed assumptions in specific areas.

You will act as the 'point person' for the committee covering reporting assumptions (LMASF), liaising with the IWR Governance team to manage the scheduling of contents and practical running of the committee.

You will be the central point of contact with our external auditors on assumptions and methodology to ensure they receive the documents and responses they need as well as support the broader team in ensuring that a strong risk management and controls environment is maintained, acting as reference point on management of iCare issues and oversight of EUC controls.

You will manage the assumptions benchmarking process with various firms of actuarial consultants, sourcing the required information, managing the relationships and extracting key points of interest from the outputs.

You will also have the opportunity to delve deeper and contribute to the development of assumption proposals in one or more specific areas.

Skills and experience we're looking for:
  • A qualified or nearly qualified actuary with good knowledge of how the various reporting and capital metrics work
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise and take responsibility for ensuring that deliverables are met
  • Strong interpersonal skills, in particular the ability to get things done through others. Ability to work collaboratively within the UK IWR Chief Actuary's team, with colleagues across Finance and with other stakeholders across the business
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex issues to senior stakeholders in a clear and concise manner

What you'll get for this role:
