From customer calls to software developer – how the Aviva Foundry changed Leah’s career

Leah Wrigley joined us in June last year, taking customer calls in the Equity Release team. She knew she wanted to build a career at Aviva – she just needed to find the thing that was going to ignite her passion. Then an email from The Foundry landed in her inbox…

“I've wanted to get into Software development and engineering now for as long as I can remember, so when I saw the opportunity for The Foundry, Software Engineering Bootcamp, I sprinted to the application page. Next thing I knew I found myself learning how to write HTML, CSS and JavaScript, which I had never done before!

As the sessions progressed and my confidence grew, I realised that learning code, just like learning any other new skill, took practice and patience. I was given the space within the Bootcamp to develop my skills, ask the questions I needed to ask (no matter how ridiculous!), and grow my confidence; so much so that I started applying for Developer and Analysts roles in Aviva

To my surprise, I begun getting responses to my applications! Thanks to the skills I learnt from the Bootcamp, I got a job! I'm now working as a Developer in the Business Intelligence and Management Information team and thriving!
