Apprenticeships aren’t just for young people starting their careers. At Aviva, our apprenticeship schemes suit people from all walks of life – school leavers, colleagues reinventing their careers or those looking to deepen existing skills.
Meet Jake! Joining Aviva straight from school, Jake was a little daunted - but that faded away on meeting his team, who are determined to support his growth through the company.
What’s it like to be a new apprentice and graduate at Aviva?
Well, on Monday 26th September we held our early careers welcome event which was an opportunity for them to connect with each other and learn more about Aviva.
It was a chance for them establish a network for the future, gain a high level over-view of the company and meet and hear from our senior leaders – including our Group CEO, Amanda Blanc.
Here’s what some had to say about the event:
"Over the last three days networking with people has been really, really amazing." - David
"My personal highlight was speaking to Debbie, the Wellbeing lead. I'm very passionate about wellbeing and it's something I'd like to go into in the future." - Holly
Congratulations to our most recent cohort of Scottish Graduate Apprentices have graduated this summer - 2022
The apprenticeship programme offers the chance to earn a salary whilst learning new skills and working towards a professional qualification. A great way to start a new career!
Aidan Harris said: “It’s been a fantastic 4 years on the programme. It’s been such an amazing experience getting real life work experience whilst working towards my degree. I’ve felt really supported by the team & the other apprentices and I am so pleased we all got to graduate together”.
We’ll be open for applications again in January 2023 – take a look here for our latest roles: https://lnkd.in/dXmuJ2H4

Aviva currently has 252 apprentices, and in total has funded 542 apprentices aged 17-69 across its UK business since the UK Government introduced the Apprenticeship Levy in 2017.
Aviva’s business requires a diverse range of skills. We currently use 41 apprenticeship standards, which show the work an apprentice will do and the skills they’ll need. These focus on core insurance skills such as underwriting and actuarial, and developing new skills such as digital and analytics.
Sophie Gray, Apprenticeships Lead at Aviva, said: “We’re passionate about our people and want them to be able to learn in the way that best supports them in their career, whatever point in life that may be. Apprenticeships are a great way to learn both for people carving out their very first career or for those looking to equip themselves with new skills or a new challenge at Aviva.
“The ability to learn while you earn is highly motivating for ambitious people and we’re really proud that many of our apprentices have continued their learning with a second apprenticeship with some securing promotion as a result.”
Danny Harmer, Aviva’s Chief People Officer, said: “At Aviva, we work together to think 'what would make things easier for our customers?'. Our apprentices get a proper salary and are involved with real projects pretty much from day one.”
Share your experience, tips and advice with other job seekers on how they can land their dream job. The best contributions will get published!
