Disability at Office for Nuclear Regulation

Disability Confident Leader Employer

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) has been reaccredited with disability confident leader status, underlining our commitment to supporting all our staff to reach their full potential, including those with disabilities.

This government-backed scheme encourages employers to think differently about disability and take action to improve how they recruit, retain and develop people with disabilities.

As a disability confident leader, we also aim to change attitudes outside ONR by encouraging and supporting stakeholders, as well as those in our supply chain, to make the journey to become disability confident.

Examples of our commitment in action include our guaranteed interview scheme for candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria for a role. Learn more about our application and selection procedure and apply for our current roles.

Other examples of this in action include:

  • Supporting staff in managing their disabilities or health conditions, to make sure workplace adjustments are in place where needed, providing occupational health and employee assistance programmes, and benefitting from our membership of disability organisation Purple.
  • Promoting the importance of accessibility with the introduction of Equality Impact Assessments, plus our Accessibility Policy supported by the Accessibility Hub, Accessibility Training and updated Style Guide.
  • On-going promotion of awareness days to remind colleagues of what is available to support them throughout the year including training.
  • Accessibility Working Group

The reaccreditation is a result of the dedication, passion, and hard work of colleagues from across the organisation, particularly those members of the Diversity & Inclusion Group, and Accessibility Working Group who alongside our senior leaders are committed to strengthening our inclusive culture.

ONR is committed to being an inclusive employer and we welcome and encourage applications from all applicants. We will make reasonable adjustments and adaptations to ensure the recruitment process is inclusive and barrier-free. For example, providing job descriptions in alternative formats, and providing communication support and accessible venues.

If you would like to discuss how we can support you, please contact  [email protected]/, who will be able to provide further information and discuss any reasonable adjustments you may need during the recruitment process. We will offer an interview to disabled people who meet the minimum criteria for the role.
