This year, the ninth annual Armed Forces Day will take place on 24th June in the vibrant city of Liverpool. Coinciding with the International Mersey River Festival, the event will include family fun, music and entertainment in celebration of our brave service men and women.
Armed Forces Day is a chance to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community including Regulars, Reserves, their families and veterans past and present. The event is a huge morale boost to those who have served or are currently serving our country.
Along with the main event in Liverpool, there are many celebrations taking place across the country. Click here to find them all.
Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, said:
“We do scale, spectacle and storytelling better than any other UK city, and I am delighted that our reputation for staging events has once again received national recognition, and as a result we have been selected as the location to host this prestigious celebration.
“This day gives us the chance to recognise the role of the Armed Forces and thank all those men and women who have dedicated their lives to protecting our country.”
Many of our members have signed the Armed Forces Covenant for businesses, which is a voluntary pledge to demonstrate their support for the Armed Forces community. This pledge includes a commitment to the two key principles of the Armed Forces Covenant, which are:
- No member of the armed forces community should face disadvantage in the provision of public and commercial services compared to any other citizen
- In some circumstance special treatment may be appropriate, especially for the injured or bereaved
The pledge document contains a ‘menu’ of options for organisations to sign up to in order to encourage them to offer support in a way most appropriate to their situation and capacity. The support available is directed at employment initiatives for veterans, reservists, service spouses and partners, as well as support for cadet units, Armed Forces Day, and discounts for the Armed Forces community. Companies and charitable organisations can also add their own commitments based on local circumstances.
