Principal Scientist - Computational Science, Non-Clinical Safety

The R&D Non-Clinical Safety (NCS) organisation has a focus on the application of cellular and molecular approaches to elucidate mechanisms of toxicity, understanding species differences, and identifying novel translational safety biomarkers to inform on project decisions.

The NCS organisation requires modelling and data science expertise (i.e., analysis of multi-dimensional data sets including flow cytometry and in vitro cellular imaging studies) to assist with the establishment of leading NCS platforms to evaluate the safety of new medicines.

We create a place where people can grow, be their best, be safe, and feel welcome, valued and included. We offer a competitive salary, an annual bonus based on company performance, healthcare and wellbeing programmes, pension plan membership, and shares and savings programme.

We embrace modern work practises; our Performance with Choice programme offers a hybrid working model, empowering you to find the optimal balance between remote and in-office work.

In this role you will
  • Design and develop computational methods for the analysis of high throughput, multi-dimensional data sets within NCS, with a focus on supporting multiparametric flow cytometry and in vitro cellular imaging studies.
  • Support analyses of data sets including RNAseq, metabolomics, multiparametric cytokine data as NCS priorities require, with a particular focus on non-clinical safety and translational biomarkers.
  • Identify and implement state-of-the-art data mining methodologies and machine learning algorithms to assist in the interpretation of cellular and molecular assay outcomes.
  • Define, refine, and implement standards for quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) of methods choice to ensure data and reports are of high quality and build confidence in GSK's integrity and scientific credibility with internal partners and global regulatory authorities.
  • Work collaboratively, establish and maintain close working relationships with R&D data scientists and NCS biological scientists generating data as part of a cross-functional team, contribute to the experimental design based on the objectives set for the study, and support customised data visualisation and analysis solutions.
  • Translate informatics solutions into business-oriented biomedical understanding, to ultimately support decision-making endpoints in drug discovery and development processes.
  • Execute and optimise analytic algorithms and data flow at scale, employing GSK's computing infrastructure.
  • Produce high quality written documentation of methodologies applied (e.g. protocol contributions, scope of work), analysis results and interpretation for internal decision making purposes and inclusion in regulatory submissions as required.
