Head of Urban Green Space

Permanent contract

HOS1 = £57,363 - £75,819 pa

Full time - 36 Hours

Enfield Council is seeking a talented Urban Greenspace Manager to join our team.

Our borough is a treasure trove of green and blue assets, with over half of it classified as such. Our stunning parks, trees, open spaces, routes, woodlands, and watercourses symbolise our borough's identity and have left an indelible mark on the landscape.

That's why we have developed a ten-year strategy to protect, maintain, and enhance these assets in response to the challenges ahead.

As our population continues to grow, we need more affordable homes alongside new open spaces, accessible routes, and sports facilities. Our green and blue assets have a vital role to play in meeting these needs. They can also help us to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change, which is why we have committed to increasing the amount of green cover in our borough.

Our ambitions are big, but we believe they are achievable. We want to increase levels of physical activity, reduce exposure to pollution, create more cycle and pedestrian-friendly streets, enhance the public realm, reduce flooding, remediate degraded environments, increase biodiversity and food production, celebrate our rich landscape heritage, and promote green tourism.

Our goal is to create more publicly accessible green spaces and woodland areas than anywhere else in London, as well as new blue features, such as accessible waterways and wetlands. We want our borough to be known as a place where nature thrives, and where people can enjoy the benefits of being close to nature.

We are looking for someone who will lead the strategic approach for managing Enfield's urban greenspace, which includes parks, allotments, cemeteries, and urban open spaces. The ideal candidate will be responsible managing resources, people, and budgets to ensure continuous improvements and performance outcomes.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement the strategic approach for managing urban greenspace
  • Manage resources, people, and budgets to drive continuous improvements and performance outcomes
  • Secure external funding and cultivate partnerships with community groups for nature conservation and biodiversity functions, arboriculture service, park engagement, and operational service delivery
  • Provide effective leadership to operational services
  • Collaborate with elected members, Cabinet, and the Cabinet Member of Environment, providing expert advice
