Our graduate programmes will give you all the training and support you need to reach your goals and unlock a future that’s packed with new experiences.
Graduate Finance Trainee scheme
The Graduate Finance Trainee scheme is part of the professional training framework for finance and is open to all ages. The scheme is usually a four-year programme combining formal studies for a professional qualification, with office-based placements.
Trainees study towards the CIPFA Professional Accountancy Qualification, usually via apprenticeships, to benefit from funding offered by central government. CIPFA is the only professional accountancy body in the world exclusively dedicated to public finance.
We offer our trainees:
- day release to attend classes
- full funding for the qualification
- a work place mentor
- annual rotations, to experience a full financial year cycle
- annual pay increments
- pay progression based on performance and completion of qualifications
National Graduate Development scheme
We are proud to be part of the National Graduate Development Programme and take on around four graduates each year for our tailored two-year management development programme. This is run by the Local Government Association (LGA) and fast tracks graduates into a management career in local government.

Alasdair Gillies
"I started working at Enfield Council in October 2020 and my first placement was in the Policy and Strategy team. This was a great opportunity to get involved with lots of different pieces of work right across the council. My next placement was in the Climate Action and Sustainability team and also provided lots of opportunities to take part in a variety of environmental projects. In my current placement I am working as a Youth Participation Officer in the Joint Service for Disabled Children."
Annie Radcliffe
"I have really enjoyed my time at Enfield, meeting a wide range of people and especially the other graduates on the programme. If you want a range of experiences, with exposure to exciting projects and passionate people, Enfield is the perfect place to start your career in local government."
Sarah Gilroy
"Since joining the graduate scheme at Enfield Council in October 2020, I have been involved in lots of different projects and developed a wide range of skills. On the graduate scheme at Enfield, you are given responsibility from the outset and the chance to work on exciting, high-profile projects, but you are always supported by your line manager, placement co-ordinator and senior mentor."
