Hardware Engineering Manager (Electronics)

Based in Crawley- Hybrid Working (Minimum 3 days onsite)

About the role :

Thales Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) design and deliver hardware into Electronic Warfare Solutions for the UK MoD and have an exciting opportunity for a Hardware Engineering Manager to join the team in Crawley.

You will be responsible for ensuring the completion of engineering designs and developments within cost, schedule, performance and quality. Your focus will be on ensuring all the disciplines understand there part and that they work together as a team to complete the projects, where you will oversee a range of activities regarding customer needs, mission, function, architectural design, and life cycle of the hardware solution.

You will work in a highly technical, high performing, world class team who are leaders in this their business area. You will play a key part in new state of the art products and developments into Digital Electronic Warfare Systems with opportunities to gain exposure and develop your skills across Thales.

This role is based in Crawley with some occasion UK wide travel to other Thales and customer sites.

As a Hardware Engineering Manager, you will:
  • Identify the required skills, allocate responsibilities to the various individual contributors and lead these contributors as a team.
  • With the team, he/she identifies, schedules, co-ordinates and monitors the implementation of tasks.
  • Manage advanced studies dealing with new functions as well as emerging technologies, as required.
  • Manage packages of hardware design work
  • Decomposition and interpretation of system requirements & algorithms
  • Provide technical assistance to production
  • Is in charge of tasks focused on preparing, defining, specifying, tooling and performing IVVQ (Integration, Verification, Validation and Qualification) activities.
  • Proactively contributes to all elements of the project / product / SFR&D activity so that hardware engineering expertise and effort is applied as necessary to secure successful business outcomes. This will typically be in a lead engineering management role for hardware design and development activity and in a support role for all other activity.

About You:
  • You will have a background in Hardware Engineering and a solid understanding of Engineering Development Lifecycles.
  • The successful applicant will have proven experience leading engineering activity through design lifecycle and platform installation within a ship, submarine, military or defence industry.
  • You will have demonstrable experience of collaborating, leading and pulling together teams, excellent listening skills, logical, driven with a proactive with a "can do" mentality.

Skills:
  • Requirements Management and Development Skills.
  • Electro-mechanical design including Power switching & control, Cabling and enclosure wiring
  • An excellent understanding of the fundamentals of High speed digital design
  • A working knowledge of Microprocessors, programmable devices, DSP, FPGA, memory
  • Knowledge of PCB design constraints
  • Knowledge of Electronic Warfare Systems and Radar Systems is advantageous

Qualifications:
  • A relevant degree or equivalent in relevant engineering discipline (Electronic Engineering, Electrical and Electronic, or Communications), supported by 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Evidence of the ability to lead and motivate a group of people to achieve a goal is important.
  • Knowledge of the Hardware Engineering Design, Develop and Qualify the Solution Process Lifecycle, or equivalent.
