This TV episode highlights the great work of the team – delivering a high demand of secure biometric passports for the Government, and demonstrating the Thales technologies within British passports, and the security features that make them so secure.

What makes British passports so secure?

“There are a lot of special technology features that go into the British passport to make it one of the most interesting and secure passports in the world.  As an example if anyone has one of our Series C passport at home (the blue passport), they can spot some of these amazing technologies.  Looking on the first page at certain angles can show the flowers of the four nations of United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.  At the bottom of the same page is the decoder lens and through it you can see your photo, again in certain angles and lights you can see your name and date of birth appear.”

Can you tell us a bit about you and the team?

“My team and I deliver the logical and physical security that is involved to ensure that the personalisation of the books is as secure as possible. The passport production involves a lot of DIS employees, and we are lucky to have such a well-organised and experienced team. This experience is from not only the identity sector but also personalisation experience from the Banking sector as well. There’s a lot of teams and staff involved in the manufacture and personalisation of books for HM Passport Office. Probably more than most people can imagine!”
