Skip to main contentAmongst Black Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, there is a growing concern that mental health professionals, as well as the general public lack a thorough understanding of BAME men’s mental health. This is demonstrated in statistics illustrating that not only are BAME men more likely to develop a psychotic disorder, but also, more likely to be detained under the Mental Health Act (1984) and succumb to poorer clinical outcomes in treatment. As such, BAME in Psychiatry & Psychology aims to address, from a professionals perspective, BAME men’s experiences of mental health and help-seeking behavioural patterns, as well as the most culturally sensitive, appropriate and effective approaches in supporting BAME men’s mental health via panel discussions.

The event will consist of two panel discussions. This includes:
PANELLISTS:
Panellists include male professionals in psychiatry and psychology of BAME backgrounds, who have been selected based on their knowledge of BAME men’s mental health, and the good practices used to promote and prevent poor mental health amongst BAME men within mental health services. Panellist will have also had experience supporting BAME men’s mental health in a therapeutic environment.
