On Nov the 1st Business in the Community released its 2017 Best Employer for Race List. Among the many organisations that made this year’s list is HarperCollins UK.
Charlie Redmayne, HarperCollins UK CEO, said: “I am proud of the work we have done at HarperCollins and grateful to Business in the Community for recognising our efforts. Becoming a truly diverse business will enable us to reach the widest possible audience whilst making us a stronger and more influential company.” HarperCollins UK received a personal congratulation from Sandra Kerr OBE, Race Equality Director at Business in the Community.
6 months ago, Baroness Ruby McGregor-Smith CBE launched the Government’s review of race in the workplace. This government backed review has encouraged employers to increase participation and progression in the workplace for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) employees.
1 in 4 children in UK Primary and Secondary schools come from a BAME background, which results in 1 in 8 of the working age population being of a BAME background. Even with the light shed on these statistics, only 1 in 10 of those employed are from the BAME community and just 1 in 16 in senior positions.
The Baroness’ review also recommended ‘the Best Employers for Race List’. Baroness Ruby McGregor-Smith went on to say: “I am delighted that we have this snapshot of UK employers that are prepared to show their leadership on race in the workplace, six months on from my review which recommended the creation of the Best Employers for Race list. By taking action on this issue, they have demonstrated that their workplaces are for everyone, not just the privileged few. I am now calling on more organisations to continue this momentum by entering the process in 2018.”
Among those that entered the list are some of the other clients we here at VERCIDA are also proud to work with;
