Mott MacDonald was named in The Times Top 50 Employers for Gender Equality 2025, recognising our progress in creating a workplace where everyone, regardless of gender, can thrive. In 2024, 42.17% of UK promotions went to women, exceeding their overall representation of 34.5% in our UK workforce. Since 2019, we have reduced our gender pay gap by 19%.
Our Women Future Leaders programme provides tailored development, mentorship, sponsorship and training to support women into senior roles. The Advancing Gender employee network gives colleagues a platform to address gender inequality and drive progress from within.
We celebrate International Women's Day across our offices each year and run a virtual Women STEM Insights event for female university students exploring careers in engineering and consultancy. We also publish a UK gender, ethnicity and disability pay gap report annually.
We actively work to bring more women into engineering and to support those who have taken a career break to return. Through our partnership with STEM Returners, we run a returner programme for experienced STEM professionals coming back to the industry. Our 2025 programme welcomed professionals returning after career breaks, providing the support, training and flexibility they need to succeed.
"There is a trust and confidence across Mott MacDonald born out of years delivering best in class projects and technical excellence. It's an inclusive, dynamic work environment that is supportive and collaborative, one that values its people at whatever life stage you are." Adele White, Senior Environmental and Sustainability Consultant, who joined through our 2024 STEM Returners programme.
We are members of the Business Disability Forum and are committed to making our recruitment and working practices as accessible as possible. If you have specific requirements at any stage of the application process or throughout your career with us, please get in touch at [email protected].
Our Accessibility employee network provides community, advocacy and support for colleagues with visible and non-visible disabilities, as well as allies across the business. We publish an annual UK gender, ethnicity and disability pay gap report and track representation by disability across apprentice, graduate, management and leadership levels.
In our offices, we provide ergonomic workstations, private booths and meditation spaces, and we offer flexible and agile working arrangements that can be adapted to meet individual needs.
Our global EDI strategy, Everyone's Business, reflects our ambition to lead our sector in diversity, equity and inclusion. We partner with the Association for Black and Minority Ethnic Engineers (ABME) to reach under-represented talent and support inclusion across the industry.
Our Advancing Race and Culture (ARC) employee network provides a platform to discuss racial, ethnic and cultural equality and inclusion. The network has contributed to significant milestones including the publication of our Ethnicity Pay Gap Report.
In January 2026, we launched Aspire, a 12-month programme designed to accelerate the progression of ethnically diverse colleagues. We also publish an annual UK gender, ethnicity and disability pay gap report, tracking our progress transparently.
At Mott MacDonald, there is a career pathway for everyone, whether you are starting out or returning after a break. Our work spans transport, energy, buildings, water, environment, defence and development, meaning there are opportunities across a genuinely broad range of engineering and consultancy disciplines.
Our structured three-year graduate scheme gives you the business, commercial and technical skills to build a long and rewarding career. You will work on live projects from day one, alongside global experts and supportive mentors, while pursuing your professional qualifications. Our Accelerating your Future development programme runs alongside the scheme, giving you the soft skills and tools to thrive at every stage of your career.
We offer degree apprenticeships across the UK, including a Scottish Degree Apprenticeship Programme. These programmes let you earn while you learn, combining on-the-job experience with a degree-level qualification in engineering or project management. You will join the same Accelerating your Future development programme as our graduates, giving you the same structured development and support.
Our advanced apprenticeship programmes are open to those working towards or holding GCSEs or equivalent qualifications. They offer a structured entry into the engineering profession, with real project exposure, mentoring and the opportunity to grow your career at your own pace.
We offer student placement opportunities for undergraduates looking to gain hands-on engineering experience. Placements give you a real introduction to the range and scale of work we do, from transport and infrastructure to water and environment, and many of our graduates first joined us as placement students.
We welcome experienced engineers and consultants at all levels, from those taking their first senior step to specialists with deep sector expertise. We support professionals returning to work after a career break through our STEM Returners programme, and we actively look for people who want to lead, innovate and shape the future of the industries we work in.
