Successful candidates can expect to be involved in a range of the following:

Sustainable Transport Lead
  • Develop and implement a DWP Sustainable Travel Strategy, including delivery and embedding.
  • Ensuring the identification and management of opportunities for change that deliver upon the strategy, monitoring progress against set targets.
  • Coordination and production of sustainable travel data and information for DWPs annual Sustainability Report, which is published in its Annual Report and Accounts.
  • Ensuring travel emissions data is accurate, complete and produced in time for quarterly Greening Government Commitments travel reporting.
  • Coordination of external suppliers, e.g. to ensure travel emissions are reported.

Sustainability Strategy & Governance Lead
  • Implementation of programme management of the Departmental Environmental Sustainability Strategy and Sustainability Governance. Development of new strategy to run from 2025.
  • Identify and manage opportunities for change that deliver upon the strategy.
  • Lead stakeholders across DWP and its Arms Length Bodies (ALBs) to ensure that sustainability is embedded into activities and processes.
  • Report against Sustainability Strategy performance, delivery and risk to all levels including the Sustainability Leadership Forum and the Departments Executive Team.
  • Coordinate and produce DWPs annual Sustainability Report, which is published in its Annual Report and Accounts, and sustainability risk management, including reporting aligned with Taskforce on Climate-related Disclosures.

Essential Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • Demonstrable and considerable professional expertise in management role/sleading teams on sustainability orenvironmental issues with a remit that sitsoutside of or extends beyond the built environment.(Lead Criterion)
  • Experience of emissions data reporting and the production of related Management Information
  • Significant experience of leading teams to deliver a sustainability strategy orprogram from start to finish across alargeorganisation, settingprioritisation,delivering at pace and working to tight timescales. Well-developed strategicplanning,delivery and risk management skills and experience of continuousimprovement.
  • High level of proven experience leading on delivering change through influence and coordinating stakeholders, withgood negotiating skills and the ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with colleagues at all levels.
  • Leads effectively and in partnership with colleagues to ensure best and appropriate course of action, calling upon ownexpertise and judgement, and commissioning the input of others to assist with decision-making.
  • Influential and excellent communicator with the ability to communicate technically complex and difficult subject matterto a broad audience of stakeholders.
  • Commercially astute with evidence of managing budgets and key supplier management including performancemanagement and managing/escalating issues to resolution where required.
  • Extensive experience of analysing and reporting on data and trends from a wide variety of sources, presentingtechnical information to non-technical audiences, and using data to drive decision making.
  • In depth experience, knowledge and understanding of complying with related statutory, regulatory frameworks and legislative or policy requirements and ensuring that other areas of an organisation are aware of and understand their obligations

Location

Hybrid Working

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.

Selection will be by written sift followed by an interview via MS Teams covering strengths, Behaviours and Technical Knowledge.

Written Sift

There will be an initial sift of applications based on the Personal Statement only, so please ensure you evidence how you meet the Essential Skills, Knowledge & Experience requirement contained in the vacancy in this section. This will form a short list for interview.

Interview

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview. This will be via MS Teams. The interview panel will be a minimum of two people. The interview will assess: Behaviours, Technical Knowledge and Strengths. Theinterview aims to be more of a conversation exploring the candidates capability for the role.
