We are currently looking for a Software Function Leader to join Thales UK Avionics Division based in Crawley, United Kingdom.

As a Software Function Leader you will have the opportunity to lead software delivery teams across a range of projects, operating systems and development environments.

You will play a pivotal role within the Software Function working across a range of technology based solutions for Civil and Military customers in the areas of airborne voice and data communication services to support cockpit and cabin; secure on-board connectivity to facilitate multiple levels of secure information exchange; and tactical mission support from planning to execution and post flight review.

This position will be part of the Software leadership team, supporting a range of product developments. Through the Thales UK software wider community you will gain exposure to a broad range of Thales products across all business lines. You will be given the opportunity to demonstrate your leadership skills, and over time you will have the opportunity to progress into further engineering leadership roles.

The Function Leader is responsible to the FLX CCC - Head of Software

for ensuring the effective management of the Function.

The key aspects of the role are in the support to people and resource management, process development and improvement, for the development of the Function's capability and development infrastructure (tools).

Supports the development of the Function's technology roadmap consistent with the strategic needs of the Domains as defined by the FLX Business Strategy

We are looking for a Software Function/Discipline Lead who has:

  • Technical and managerial leadership within an engineering environment, with excellent people management skills and the ability to influence and challenge others.
  • Team player who can interface at all levels within engineering and manufacturing teams
  • Good knowledge of Civil Avionics, Simulation, Government body or Military developments
  • Good understanding of Engineering Standards, engineering processes and maturity models
  • Demonstrable experience and guidance to support RTCA DO-178B software development
  • A confident communicator, resourceful and proactive, ensuring adequate quality and timely delivery.
