Thales Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) UK is a principal supplier of Unmanned Air Systems (UAS), Electronic Warfare (EW) and Radar equipment to the UK armed forces, as well as an exporter of these capabilities world-wide.

We are growing and now looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join our team in Crawley with opportunities to collaborate with Thales sites in the UK and overseas.

As a Software Engineering Manager you will be responsible for a range of activities from the design, implementation and test of Human Computer Interface, to Signal processing and middleware products, always keeping in line with the best industry standard tools and methods

Responsible for delivery of software components / solutions through software development, test and integration activities verifying programme requirements. Your expertise will be looked upon to mentor and support the team of Software Engineer.

Other key responsibilities
  • Specify and prove designs to meet project operational requirements.
  • Ensure adequate forward planning is performed for project activities and to capture the output in the relevant development plan.
  • Generate project cost and schedule information and ensure it is reviewed and reported to project on a regular basis.
  • Ensure the product is delivered on time and to budget.
  • Identify and pro-actively manage project risks and ensure that risks are assessed and reported to project on a regular basis.
  • Support project 'team building'.
  • Ensure that project safety and airworthiness requirements are addressed in a manner consistent with company processes

Experience: Ideally we are looking for:

Experienced in full software lifecycle (e.g. planning, analysis, requirements, design, development, test & integration, maintenance)

Desirable - Knowledge of DOORs, UML, C++, Jira, Subversion, GIT, Linux & Windows OS, Embedded & Graphical Software

Knowledge of Software processes and standards (e.g. AQAP 2210, DO-178, DEF-STAN 00-56)

Confident with Software development environments and practices (e.g. Model / Test based development, Continuous Integration / Deployment)

Have managed or coached a software Team to include; planning, tasking, metrics, risks, reporting, configuration management

Understands technical solutions

Customer acceptance

Management of key stakeholders

Desirable - Knowledge of Agile - Scrum
