Senior Safety Engineer

Location: Cheadle (SK3 0XB) or Templecombe - Hybrid

Thales Underwater Systems cover a broad portfolio of engineering challenges, working at the forefront of the exciting area of remotely operated unmanned vehicles for maritime/naval operations, the introduction into service of new sonar capabilities to surface and submarine platforms in the UK and around the world, and the support for all Thales in-service sonar systems.

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Safety Engineer to support and lead topics in safety engineering tasks for our major projects including in-house autonomous system developments and future flagship naval programmes.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of safety engineering activities for UWS projects, ensuring the delivery of all safety artefacts and requirements in a timely manner;
• Act as the main Point of Contact for Safety Expertise to your projects, supporting the Project Design Authority and other engineering functions in the delivery of their activities;
• Liaise with the customer representative for all safety related activities;
• Ensure that the safety management approach for all our projects is in accordance with Thales processes, in addition to customer requirements, including but limited to Def Stan 00-056 or MIL STD 882;
• Immediately raise any concerns regarding the safety of a product, or the application of policies and processes, and support / lead Product Safety Investigations to resolve these issues;
• Support the UWS Safety Assurance Manager and Safety Authority in the delivery of their duties to ensure that all UWS projects and systems are adequately safe.

Experience and Skill Required

• knowledge and/or experience of Safety Management Processes, and experienced in the implementation and delivery of Safety Engineering activities;
• Knowledge and experience of formal hazard identification and assessment techniques and methods, and IT based Hazard Log management systems;
• Knowledgeable with respect to product environmental, material and safety related Legislation, Regulation and Standards;
• Experience of safety management processes from safety critical domains;
• Experience of Functional and/or Software Safety
• Knowledge of engineering lifecycle management, its requirements and application;

Security Clearance statement
