Hardware Configuration Item Owner - Mast Electronics Assembly

Based in Crawley- Hybrid Working (Minimum 3 days onsite)

About the role:

Thales Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) design and deliver hardware into Electronic Warfare Solutions for the UK MoD and have an exciting opportunity for a Hardware Configuration Item Owner to join the team in Crawley. You will take both Technical Ownership of your allocated Sub System and Control Account Management for the delivery of the associated configuration item.

Your focus will be on ensuring that all the team understand their part and that they work together to achieve timely delivery of development milestones. You will oversee a range of activities regarding customer requirements, architectural design, and development and production life cycle of the hardware solution, whilst monitoring & driving delivery to agreed cost, schedule, performance & quality.

You will work in a highly technical, high performing, world class team who are leaders in this their business area. You will play a key part in new state of the art products and developments in the field of fully digital Electronic Warfare solutions. The role will provide you with opportunities to gain exposure and develop your skills across Thales.

This role is based in Crawley with some occasion UK wide travel to other Thales and customer sites.

Day to day, jointly with other key team members, you will

  • Ensure the feasibility of the Electronic Warfare Sub System Solution
  • Assure sub system solution compliance with customer needs, product policy, Make Team Buy strategy and applicable legislation etc.
  • Identify & review the technical risks and opportunities
  • Manage sub system design & changes
  • Plan and execute the defined scope of work for the Control Account, within the defined budget and schedule
  • Understand the Critical Path to deliveries
  • Monitor, verify and control of costs charged to the Control Account, conducting and completing formal cost and schedule variance analysis

About You:

  • You will have a background in Hardware engineering & a solid understanding of Engineering Development Lifecycles and Cost Account Control.
  • The successful applicant will have proven experience leading engineering activity through design & development lifecycles in the defence industry domain.
  • Experience in system integration, platform installation and acceptance in a military environment would also be beneficial.
  • You will have demonstrable experience of collaborating, leading and pulling together teams, excellent listening skills, logical thinker, driven with a proactive, can do, mentality.

Skills:
  • Knowledge of Electronic Warfare Systems
  • An excellent understanding of how to develop a Product to cost but with the ability to include hooks for future features
  • Estimating, scheduling, cost management and risk management

A good understanding of:
  • Key issues related to SNR(Signal to noise ratio), up/down-conversion, tuned receivers, LO/clock generation in microwave bands
  • DACs, Optical transceivers, high speed data transmission
  • Voltage supply and regulation, serial interfaces

Experience:

Demonstrable experience in:
  • Development of ESM systems, e.g. Comms or Radar
  • Hardware technical leadership roles
  • Hardware design activities with relevance to the role.

Qualifications:

  • A relevant degree or equivalent in relevant engineering discipline (Electronic Engineering, Electrical and Electronic, or Communications, etc.), supported by 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Evidence of the ability to lead and motivate a group of people to achieve a goal is important.
  • Knowledge of the Hardware Engineering Design, Develop and Qualify the Solution Process Lifecycle, or equivalent.
