An immediate vacancy for a Service Engineer, with an Electrical / Mechanical (Electro-Mechanical) background. The role is to support Thales's Mine Warfare Sonar Systems on board Royal Navy and Export vessels and secondly to provide support to other Thales Sonar Systems fitted to the RN Surface and Submarine fleet. Responsibilities will include installs, repair, service, maintenance and retrofitting. You will spend a majority of your time travelling to customer sites, then split between working from home and the Templecombe office.An excellent opportunity for current or ex-Navy and REME Engineers. Candidates from other industrial (ideally marine) engineering background will also be considered.Our OpportunityAs a Field Services Engineer, responsible for the deployment, setting to work and in service support of Mine Warfare Sonar Systems deployed on Royal Navy and export customers Ships. Training will be provided on systems and equipment.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Be responsible for the Health and Safety of all Thales activities carried out by you and comply with the following:
- Risk Assessments.
- COSHH Assessments.
- Safe systems of work.
- Be ultimately accountable for your own day-to-day welfare.
- Support to both Royal Navy and Export Platforms in Defect Rectification:
- Conduct and Supervise Front-line support including Fault diagnosis and testing as well as acceptance trials both in harbour and at sea.
- Provide On-Call telephone support to our customers (Once at a suitable level of experience).
- Write site visit reports.
- Support to both Royal Navy and Export Platforms Maintenance Periods / Refits:
- Conduct Pre-Upkeep Maintenance Assessment (PUMA) inspections.
- Conduct scheduled maintenance activities
- Escalate engineering issues to the Field Services Manager or Service Delivery Manager as required.
- Write post maintenance reports.
- Weekly reports to the Service Delivery Manager Field Services Manager or Service Delivery Manager as required
- Activities undertaken.
- Upcoming activities.
- Successes, challenges, opportunities.
- Identify any support required from the project or department.
- Identification of your own personal and professional development.
- Compliance with all export control rules and regulations including International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
- You will also perform additional ad-hoc duties that will arise from time to time that are consistent with the nature of this position.
The role is Templecombe based, with working from home and 60% worldwide travel. Whilst traveling to customer sites, you will earn additional remuneration as overtime payments.
About YouDue to the nature of the role, this opportunity is only open to British passport holders and any successful candidate will need to be eligible for SC Clearance.
As a Field Services Engineer you will have a track record of service and maintenance in a relevant (preferably Marine) engineering discipline, working with Complex Electrical Mechanical Systems and ideally be confident around Electronics.
You must be capable of resolving issues and problems, have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels in the spoken and written word. Your experience will demonstrate your high level of self-motivation and the ability to work under pressure are vital.
Ideally qualified in a core engineering subject (electrical, mechanical, etc.), preferably HNC/D or endured apprenticeship.
