Engineer - Seamanship

We currently have a vacancy for an Engineer - Seamanship at our site in Scotstoun.

As an Engineer - Seamanship, you will undertake Seamanship system and compartment design and integration activities, you will also support Outfit system and compartment design and integration activities.

BAE Systems' Global Combat Ship has been chosen as the design for the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC), with the contract awarded to Lockheed Martin Canada by Irving Shipbuilding. Irving Shipbuilding is the Canadian Surface Combatant Prime Contractor to the Canadian Government for the build of all 15 ships at its Halifax Shipyard.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on international programme, being involved in the design phase of the product with Longevity of the contract and opportunities for further career development.

Your main responsibilities as an Engineer - Seamanship will involve:

Producing Layout Drawings for Seamanship compartments for review by stakeholders and to allow Stage 2 to correctly model these spaces

Updating Windchill PLM with mature parts, systems, occurrences and compartment data to ensure it correctly presents the baseline design

Writing and updating Technical Equipment Specifications and co-ordinate with suppliers to ensure delivery to the agreed specification

Producing Procurement Pack documentation.

Carrying out technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the design of improvements

Co-ordinating with systems engineers and detail designers on the integration of Seamanship systems.

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential skills:

Experience taking requirements and being able to develop compliant designs and specifications

Experience writing design specifications from design requirements is essential

Strong knowledge and experience of naval and/or commercial ship outfit and seamanship systems with the experience to support system and spatial integration issues with other disciplines

Desirable skills:

Experience with CAD software like AutoCAD or FORAN is desirable
