Job purpose:

Working as part of our En Route Air Traffic Management (ATM) division, your new role is a vital component of the Network Operations Team, managing Airspace Reservations within UK domestic airspace and the Shanwick Oceanic Control Area (OCA), in accordance with the UK Airspace Management Policy (CAP740).

About the role:

Reporting to the Civil Airspace Manager, this is an interesting and challenging role that offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a highly skilled, collaborative team that is at the forefront of delivering Advanced Flexible Use of Airspace, in line with the Airspace Modernisation Strategy.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Act as the ASM tool administrator, attend user forums and contribute towards airspace use analysis using associated tools.
  • Assist in the creation and submission of the Airspace Use Plan (AUP), and Updated Use plan (UUP) and on occasion, perform the function of the Civil Airspace Manager.
  • Evaluate and develop new and revised Airspace Management procedures, systems and concepts (particularly the integration of ASM and ATFCM functions) in accordance with the Airspace Modernisation Strategy (AMS).
  • Manage NOTAM proposals for activity within the Shanwick OCA.
  • POC for ad-hoc queries from flight planning teams and external agencies related to Airspace Reservations in the Shanwick OCA.
  • Liaise with the CAA on Airspace management matters and attend relevant forums both nationally and internationally.


About you:

We are looking for someone with experience of Military operations who has a good understanding of airspace management and flight planning. You'll be a highly motivated individual, both personally and professionally, who is willing to embrace, inspire and support positive change.

Other key requirements include:

  • Good knowledge and understanding of:
  1. ASM to support the development and delivery of the Flexible Use Airspace (FUA) policy.
  2. The construct and management of Oceanic & UK Domestic airspace, with emphasis on SUA and FIR/UIR/OCA interfaces.
  3. UK ASM policy and ASM regulatory framework.
  4. Emerging requirements for the use of segregated airspace.
  • Superior communication skills, numeracy and influencing ability, at all levels in an organisation.
  • Adept at building rapport and effective working relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders and leadership teams.
  • Previous experience of working within an ASM environment is desirable.
  • Experience of analysing and managing data sets with an analytical mindset.
  • Strong team player with collaborative approach.
