HS2

More than just a railway, HS2 is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. An unparalleled venture in modern engineering. People all around Britain will benefit from the improved connectivity between our major centres of industry, learning and innovation.

We have circa 2000 employees, who are mostly based in Birmingham and are responsible for ensuring that the High Speed Two rail network is:

  • designed, built and operates to the highest safety standards
  • built and operates sustainably, responsibly and respectfully of the communities, wildlife and places it affects
  • reliable, seamless and easy to use for all passengers and well-integrated with existing transport systems

We work with our suppliers to build and develop a skilled workforce that supports economic growth across the UK.

We pride ourselves on having a diverse employee workforce and know that our equality, diversity and inclusion policy addresses the need for inclusion in our workforce and the planning, design, construction and operation of the High Speed Two (HS2) project.

Could you help us to be better connected? Join the great venture.

More about HS2

Our Values

At HS2, we have four values underpinning everything we do:

  • SAFETY: Caring for our workforce, our passengers and the public by creating an environment where no one gets hurt.
  • LEADERSHIP: Using innovation and challenge to lead by example.
  • RESPECT: Understanding others, recognising their value and behaving accordingly.
  • INTEGRITY: Acting fairly, transparently and consistently.

The commitment to creating an inclusive culture throughout HS2 Ltd and its supply chain has been undaunted by the additional challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and this has been rewarded by the organisation becoming the first ever in the UK to achieve Clear Assured Platinum status for EDI.

Please read our EDI annual report for 2020 - 2021. This report makes clear how strongly the commitment to EDI is embedded in everything that HS2 does – from its recruitment processes and practices to monitoring staff progressions and pay
gaps, not just on the basis of gender but also race and disability.

Diversity

We recognise the importance of drawing senior-level hires from the widest possible pool of applicants. In January, we set new equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) reporting requirements for all our search agencies.

This data will inform our strategy for attracting more diverse candidates for all of our roles, including female candidates for senior roles.

We have also developed new recruitment materials with our supply chain partner, TMP, which are reflective of the HS2 ambition to be an inclusive employer.
