Menopause and perimenopause symptoms can have a big impact on daily life, including relationships, social life, family life and work. The NHS defines menopause as ‘when periods stop due to lower hormone levels. This usually happens between the ages of 45 and 55’.
Our ‘Menopause at Work - Guidance and Support’ policy is designed to ensure employees experiencing symptoms feel supported and empowered to ask for adjustments, without embarrassment, so they can carry out their role as part of an inclusive work culture.
The key principles that underpin our approach are:
Menopause is an individual experience - different levels and types of support/adjustments may be needed
Appropriate information and support will be provided to employees and line managers regarding the menopause
HS2 will work with employee workplace representatives and networks on an ongoing basis to ensure menopause is considered a ‘live’ matter as part of the health and wellbeing agenda
Adjustments to working conditions will be proactively considered and adopted, where reasonably practicable
HS2 is committed to taking proactive steps to ensure conditions in the workplace do not exacerbate symptoms for those experiencing menopause
