Training Adviser - (annual extension subject to Welsh Government funding)

About Futureworks

Futureworks delivers high-quality skills, employability and training programmes across Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion. As we prepare to deliver the Welsh Government's new Employability Support Programme from April 2027, we are expanding our team of passionate Training Advisers who are committed to helping people overcome barriers, build confidence and skills, and progress into sustainable employment, further learning and positive futures.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a genuine difference to people's lives by delivering engaging learning, personalised employability support and practical opportunities that enable individuals to realise their potential.

The role

As a Training Adviser, you will primarily support young people aged 16-19, and from April 2027 16-24 year olds, through our current Jobs Growth Wales+ programme while contributing to wider employability programmes delivered by Futureworks as required

You will deliver accredited and non-accredited learning in employability, wellbeing, personal development, life skills and work readiness, alongside tailored one-to-one coaching and employability support.

Working with participants who may face social, emotional, educational or economic barriers, you will create a safe, welcoming and non-judgemental environment where individuals feel valued, respected and empowered to take ownership of their future.

You will adopt a strengths-based, learner-centred approach, helping participants identify their abilities, build confidence, overcome barriers and develop realistic progression pathways into employment, education or further training.

A key aspect of the role is preparing learners for the workplace and supporting them to secure, complete and succeed in meaningful work placements and directly into work. Working closely with employers and Employer Liaison colleagues, you will ensure work placements provide high-quality learning experiences that develop vocational skills, confidence and workplace behaviours, creating a clear pathway into sustained employment.

What you'll do

You will:
  • Deliver engaging group learning sessions and personalised one-to-one support.
  • Carry out holistic assessments to identify individual strengths, needs and barriers.
  • Develop personalised learning and employability action plans.
  • Deliver group sessions, with both accredited and non-accredited learning in employability, wellbeing, personal development and work readiness.
  • Support participants to develop confidence, resilience, motivation and independent living skills.
  • Provide careers guidance, CV support, job search assistance and interview preparation.
  • Prepare learners for the workplace by developing the skills, behaviours and confidence employers value.
  • Coordinate and support meaningful work placements that provide learners with real workplace experience and a route into employment.
  • Work closely with employers before, during and after placements to ensure learners are supported, monitored and progressing towards employment.
  • Carry out regular workplace visits and learner reviews, providing coaching, encouragement and intervention where required to support successful placement outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with Employer Liaison colleagues to identify suitable work placements that align with learners' aspirations, abilities and progression goals.
  • Support employers and learners to maximise opportunities for work placements to lead to sustainable employment wherever possible.
  • Build positive relationships with local employers and partner organisations to create progression opportunities for learners.
  • Work collaboratively with schools, employers, local authorities and partner organisations to support positive outcomes.
  • Support participants with digital skills and confidence to prepare them for work and everyday life.
  • Monitor learner progress, complete reviews and maintain accurate electronic records in line with contract requirements.
  • Produce lesson plans, schemes of work, learner reviews and other programme documentation.
  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion throughout all aspects of delivery.
  • Maintain the highest standards of safeguarding, PREVENT and learner wellbeing, including while learners are undertaking work placements.

Making a difference

Many of the young people you support will have experienced significant challenges, including disengagement from education, low confidence, poor mental wellbeing or difficult personal circumstances.

Your ability to build trusting relationships, listen without judgement and inspire belief in people's potential will be central to your success. You will encourage participants to recognise their strengths, take responsibility for their own development and achieve goals they may never have believed possible.

By supporting learners through meaningful work placements, you will help bridge the gap between learning and employment, enabling them to gain valuable workplace experience, develop practical skills, build employer relationships and take positive steps into sustainable employment.

Performance measures

You will contribute towards achieving programme targets, including:

  • Recruitment and engagement of eligible participants.
  • Participant retention and sustained engagement.
  • Achievement of qualifications and agreed milestones.
  • Successful completion of meaningful work placements.
  • Progression from work placements into employment, apprenticeships, further learning or volunteering.
  • Sustained positive employment outcomes.
  • Employer engagement and satisfaction.
  • Delivery of high-quality provision that meets contractual and quality assurance requirements.

About you

You will ideally have experience of:

  • Delivering employability, education or skills programmes in a group teaching setting.
  • Supporting young people or adults facing multiple barriers to employment or learning.
  • Managing and positively challenging difficult or disengaged behaviours.
  • Delivering learner-centred, engaging and inclusive learning.
  • Coaching and motivating individuals to achieve their goals.
  • Developing tailored learning plans and creative learning activities.
  • Preparing learners for the workplace and supporting them to successfully complete work placements.
  • Working collaboratively with employers and external partners to create progression opportunities into employment.
  • Monitoring learner progress in workplace settings and providing effective coaching and support.
  • Maintaining accurate learner records and ensuring compliance with funding and quality requirements.
  • Using digital systems to support learner engagement and programme delivery.

Knowledge and skills

You will demonstrate:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A positive, empathetic and resilient approach.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • The ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and learner needs.
  • A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding, PREVENT and professional boundaries.
  • Knowledge of local labour markets, employer expectations and employability pathways.
  • An understanding of the value of work-based learning and work placements in supporting progression into employment.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with learners, employers and partner organisations.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development.

Qualifications

Ideally, you will hold, or be willing to work towards:
  • A recognised post 16 teaching/training qualification (eg AET Level 2/4)
  • An Assessor Award.
  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) as a Work-Based Learning Practitioner.
