This role as a Senior Development Lead is part of the News Technology Group. As AI technologies become more prevalent, they have the potential to provide revolutionary efficiencies in News production. The position will deal with incorporating AI capabilities into our Editorial tools and processes, enabling journalists to realize these efficiencies and provide greater insight over a broad range of topics.

About the Role

In this opportunity as Senior Development Lead, you will:
  • Participate in project/work planning sessions to analyze requirements.
  • Contribute to requirements gathering, in collaboration with capability/product and/or business owners.
  • Develop and integrate applications per written specifications. May be responsible for writing design specifications and architectural diagrams.
  • Translate technical requirements into application code and modules.
  • Make modifications to existing applications and modules in accordance with written specifications
  • Unit test and implement application modules they have developed or modified, ensuring application meets needs of business.
  • Take part in reviews of own work, and the work of colleagues.
  • Support operational teams with system maintenance, such as upgrading, fall back, troubleshooting, etc.

About You

You are a fit for the role of Senior Development Lead if your background includes:

Essential Skills & Experience Required:
  • 8+ years' experience working as a software developer.
  • Strong and demonstrable programming skill in one or more modern computer languages such as, but not limited to, C#, Java, NodeJS, and/or Python.
  • Knowledge and experience with data representation formats such as XML and JSON.
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies, preferably AWS but also Azure and GCP.
  • Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated, co-operative team leader abilities; ability to work with global teams in a squad-oriented organization.
  • Effective communication skills, including written and spoken English.

Desired Skills:
  • Experience with containers (Docker) and container orchestration and management.
  • Experience building and using Web Services.
  • Experience with .NET.
  • Experience with ElasticSearch and other NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with Linux or Unix
  • Knowledge of network services (TCP, UDP, HTTP, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Databases.
  • Familiarity with UX development.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD
  • Familiarity with design patterns
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies
  • Familiarity with Security design and practice
  • Familiarity with ReactJS
  • Asynchronous Programming and Threading Concepts
