Job summaryAn exciting opportunity has arisen with the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery at University Hospitals of Leicester for a Locum Consultant in Day Case General Surgery and Surgical Triage. Within this you will be able to work within Leicester Surgical Same Day Emergency Care service and deliver emergency surgery ambulatory clinics, alongside the review of emergency surgical patients. You will also have regular Day Case . There will be opportunity to work with colleagues in the development of new and effective patient care pathways in a department which strives to provide excellent services.

Main duties of the jobThe post-holder will support the delivery of high-quality patient care through clinical excellence, supervision, and continuous improvement.
Core Responsibilities- Diagnose, treat, and manage patient care, ensuring effective departmental function.
- Support colleagues by covering planned absences.
- Contribute to service development with consultants, CMG, GPs, and commissioners.
- Supervise and support junior staff, adhering to Trust HR policies.
- Participate in teaching, training, and assessment of medical staff at all levels.
- Engage in clinical governance, audits, CPD, and attend mandatory meetings.
- Fulfil managerial and financial duties where required.
- Maintain high standards in line with GMC guidance and Trust protocols.
- Respond to Trust requests, including incident or complaint investigations.
- Undertake required induction, appraisal, statutory training, and revalidation

Person Specification Training & Qualifications Essential - Full GMC Registration Fully Accredited for Higher Specialist Training or will be eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register within 6 months of interview date

Desirable - Membership of relavent Specialist Associations
- Higher degree e.g. MSc, MD or equivalent.

- Fully competent in Emergency General Surgery
- Fully competent in day case laparoscopic surgery, day case procedures, benign upper GI or coloproctology
