Industrial Work Package Manager

Location: Templecombe

A new and exciting opportunity for an Industrial Work Package Manager, with experience of Project Engineering/Management within a Manufacturing environment.

You will support the delivery of work packages for all customer requirements from one of the manufacturing cells in Templecombe, focused on manufacturing, with additional support to associated processes such as design, development, planning and procurement.

An amazing opportunity for you to take ownership in supporting the delivery for a growing product range within an established engineering company. This role is based in Templecombe.

Primary Purpose of the Role:

The Industrial Work Package Manager (IWPM) is the Industrial interface with Project Management/Business Lead for Production WPs. They are responsible for preparing the work package and delivering all work package activities (including those relating to risks and opportunities) with the support of the Industrial team.

  • Autonomous Production Repair Unit (APRU) Manager
  • Industrial Architect/Manufacturing Engineer
  • Master Planner/MRP Planner
  • Head of Industry & Supply Chain
  • Project Management
  • Work Package Managers (e.g. Engineering & Procurement)
  • Quality Assurance Manager (QAM)
  • Finance

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
  • Establishes the Industrial Work Package (WP) from the approved Industrial estimate.
  • Elaborates the detailed breakdown required to achieve the WP that captures the deliverables, schedule and cost.
  • To oversee the WP activities and ensure that milestones are achieved on schedule and within budget.
  • Track both material and labour spend for WP resulting in status of both Estimate At Completion (EAC) and Unit Production Cost (UPC).
  • Track schedule adherence and progress (aligned to ERP).
  • To regularly report status on schedule and cost to the Project/Business (Project Manager/Business Lead) and Industry (Head of Industry). Includes standard reporting pack into Project/WP Reviews.
  • To manage associated risks and opportunities to WP including holding/attending Risk Reviews. To be included within reporting.
  • To identify scope change to WP with associated impact and propose BCRs to capture.
  • Develop good relationships with key roles in Industry (e.g. APRU Manager) and provide support to challenges faced in meeting production schedule and costs.
  • Develop good relationships with key roles in Industry the Project (e.g. Procurement/Engineering WPM) to ensure alignment on interdependencies between WPs.
  • Identify and escalate concerns to meeting schedule and budget to Senior IWPM. IWPM is not decision maker for changes in production.
  • Organise and drive meetings/actions required to resolve challenges in meeting schedule and cost targets.

Key performance Indicators against Responsibilities and Tasks (provisional only):
  • Work Package Management - Estimate At Completion (EAC)
  • Unit Production Cost (UPC)
  • OTD (On time delivery)

Skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels both verbally and written.
  • PC literate with a good understanding of all office tools
  • Attention to detail and ability to ensure all work is carried out accurately and conscientiously.
  • Open minded and receptive to change.
  • Shows initiative with an ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Experience in working in a manufacturing environment for at least 5 years

Experience:
  • A high level of understanding of ERP/PDM system principles.
  • A high level of understanding in purchasing and planning techniques in a manufacturing environment

Qualifications:
  • A good standard of general education is required.
  • APICS qualification or equivalent preferred
  • Professional qualifications are desired or appropriate on the job experience.
