Health and Safety Lead

The Health and Safety is responsible for ISG Health Safety and Environment ensuring that the company is fully discharging its legal duties as stipulated by relevant Statutory Instruments, Codes of Practice and Guidance. As part of the group Health and Safety Department you will be accountable and report to the Director of Health and Safety and be responsible for all aspects of Health Safety Quality and Environment covering projects in and the immediate surrounding areas.

The Health and Safety Lead shall:
  • Implement and maintain the aims and objectives of the Company Health and Safety policy and Health Safety & Environmental Management System taking account of changes in legislation, best practice and Codes of Practice.
  • Provide timely and appropriate recommendations to the ISG business and advise the Directors responsible for each project, of arrangements and strategy for safety management.
  • Chair business unit Health Safety & Environmental meetings; provide minutes and progress actions as necessary.
  • Provide innovative Health and Safety solutions and communications, particularly 'lessons learnt' and Health and Safety schemes via the Health and Safety Best Practice Hub.
  • Investigate all accidents / incidents and near misses and provide recommendations to prevent further occurrence. The lessons learned are to be presented to the Construction London SLT and group health and safety team
  • Produce monthly reports on company performance in terms of accident / incident statistics, compliance with Safety Management System and Policy etc.
  • Review and keep updated with current and new legalisation by maintaining a central Health and Safety information library.
  • Formulate an annual strategic plan to ensure continual improvement within the Construction London businesses and implement strategic plans, campaigns and directives provided by ISG Group Safety
  • Chair supply chain Health and Safety workshops and forums, providing minutes and monitoring actions as necessary. Continually review the supply chain for to ensure those contractors
  • Provide technical support and knowledge to Estimating and Proposals in preparation of tenders.
  • Support client pre-qualifications and tender submissions
  • Prepare attend and deliver client presentations
  • Liaise and build relationships with established Health and Safety governing bodies, including the HSE, councils, corporations etc
  • Ensure that an appropriate level of audits/inspections of work places and practices is carried out in accordance with the risk profile and a monitored programme.
  • Ensure records are maintained of internal and HSE visits to sites and of External audit reports.
  • Maintain records on EcoOnline of all reportable accidents / incidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences.
  • Ensure records are maintained on EcoOnline of project safety audits/inspections, accident reports and accident books.
  • Capture and encourage innovations and new Health and Safety initiatives from our own staff and from trade contractors and promote best practice via The ISG Way
  • Lead by setting a personal example and actively promote at all levels the company's commitment to effective Health Safety and Environmental management
  • Lead and manage a team health and safety professionals.
  • Oversee projects that include a design element to ensure that all aspects of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 are complied with.
  • Ensure that all projects undertaken by the ISG understand and comply with the requirements of relevant legislation.
  • Work closely with the Quality and Sustainability functions as part of a developing integrated management function.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent standard
  • Experience in overseeing business units with multiple projects and critical client relationships
  • Experience of leading and coaching a team
  • Experienced in the implementing health and safety strategies across wide range of complex and geographically spread projects.
  • Experience of high- rise buildings and highly engineered projects
