Base Location:Reading or Havant

Salary: £33,500 - £50,300 + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

What is the Role?

This is for the position of Data Engineer in SSE's Group Data and Analytics team.

As a Data Engineer you will be responsible for the design, building, and maintenance of efficient, reusable and reliable data pipelines and ETL processes. You will be expected to analyse requirements and collaborate with team members, and SSE business unit teams, to deliver robust data solutions in an agile environment.

With an ethos of continuous improvement, you will ensure ongoing maintenance and service improvements to data driven solutions and therefore be involved in the development, and ongoing enhancements to data pipelines and other artefacts to ensure alignment with requirements, agreed technical design and security guidelines.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role we would love you to have:

- Commercial experience working as a Data Engineer and an understanding of the full solution development lifecycle from Development through to Production.

- Experience with designing, building, and operating solutions in Azure and use of capabilities such as: Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, SQL Database and/or Dedicated SQL Pool (Data Warehouse).

- Appropriately advanced language skills through use of these capabilities (e.g. Python and SQL).

- The ability to carry out assigned data engineering tasks to a high standard for example: The design and building of data models. The design and building of data pipelines for extract-transform-load (ETL) needs. Appropriate data profiling, analysis, the following of established standards, code reviewing, testing and other activities related to good practice and quality assurance.

- Experience in an Agile team for solution development ideally with use of the Azure DevOps tool.

- To supplement Data Engineering skills, and in the knowledge that data will be used for analysis and business intelligence purposes, then experience with visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI) would be advantageous.
