Pride Every Day: How Mott MacDonald Supports LGBTQIA+ Colleagues All Year Round
Category: LGBTQIA+ (Sexual Orientation)
June is Pride Month - a time to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community, recognise how far we’ve come, and reflect on the work still ahead. At Mott MacDonald, it’s also a moment to pause and reconnect with something we care deeply about: creating a workplace where everyone feels safe, valued, and able to be themselves.

We’re proud to stand with our LGBTQIA+ colleagues - not just during Pride, but every day, on the issues that matter most to them. Because for us, Pride isn’t just a date in the calendar. It’s part of how we show up all year round.
Celebrating Pride Month Together
Across our UK and global offices, Pride Month brings a real sense of energy, openness, and connection.
This year, we’ll be out in our communities - joining Pride celebrations with Building Equality and coming together at events like Sparkle Weekend in Manchester, one of the UK’s leading celebrations of transgender lives and experiences.
Inside Mott MacDonald, there are plenty of ways to get involved too:
🌈 Taking part in Pride marches and local celebrations
🎤 Sharing stories through internal campaigns that highlight LGBTQIA+ voices and allies
💬 Learning from webinars and guest speakers who bring lived experiences and insight into LGBTQIA+ history and inclusion
These moments matter. They help us learn, listen, and better understand each other. But we also know that inclusion doesn’t begin and end in June.
Taking a Moment to Reflect
This year, Kerry Hancock, executive sponsor of our Advance network, is encouraging us all to think about what Pride really means on a personal level:
"Pride is a fantastic opportunity for us all to reflect on how we can be allies to all LGBTQIA+ people, taking the time to build our understanding of different experiences and to champion LGBTQIA+ inclusion. This year in particular I am reflecting on what I can do to support and uplift my transgender colleagues. What does Pride represent for you?"
It’s a simple question—but an important one. Because inclusion isn’t just about big initiatives; it starts with each of us being willing to listen, learn, and take action.

What Support Looks Like Every Day
Inclusion at Mott MacDonald isn’t just something we talk about - it’s built into how we work. Every day, in visible and behind-the-scenes ways, we’re working to create an environment where LGBTQIA+ colleagues feel supported and empowered.
Our LGBTQ+ & Allies Network
At the heart of this is our LGBTQ+ & Allies Network - a passionate community that helps bring people together and drive change.
The network:
- Creates space for connection, support, and belonging
- Helps shape policies, from gender identity guidance to support for transitioning at work
- Runs campaigns that challenge bias and raise awareness
- Works closely with leaders and HR to keep pushing for progress
Sometimes it’s about big conversations; other times it’s simply about having a safe space to talk. Both matter.
Making Our Workplace More Inclusive
We’re always looking at how we can do better by our people. That means continually reviewing and improving things like:
- The language we use
- Access to gender-neutral facilities
- Support for colleagues who are transitioning
- Benefits and leave policies that reflect different kinds of families
It’s about removing barriers - some obvious, some less so - and making inclusion part of everyday life at work.
Learning, Listening, Growing
Building an inclusive culture is something we all contribute to, and learning is a big part of that.
We offer:
- EDI learning focused on LGBTQIA+ inclusion and unconscious bias
- Allyship campaigns that encourage people to speak up and support each other
- Practical guidance to help colleagues be more inclusive in their day-to-day work
Because often, it’s the small, thoughtful actions that make people feel they belong.
Visibility and Representation Matter
Seeing people like you reflected in an organisation can make all the difference. That’s why we’re focused on increasing LGBTQIA+ visibility across every level of our business.
We’re doing this by:
- Celebrating LGBTQIA+ role models and leaders
- Encouraging voluntary self-identification to help us understand where we are - and where we need to improve
- Promoting everyday signals of support, like Pride lanyards
These moments - big and small - help create a culture where people feel seen, recognised, and valued.
Stronger Together
We know we can’t do this alone. That’s why we’re proud to work with organisations like Stonewall, Trans in the City, and Building Equality.
Through these partnerships, we keep learning, sharing, and playing our part in creating change beyond our own organisation.
Inclusion Is on All of Us
Pride is a celebration - but it’s also a reminder.
While progress has been made, many LGBTQIA+ people still face challenges and discrimination. That’s why we keep asking ourselves: what more can we do?
At Mott MacDonald, inclusion isn’t owned by one team or one network. It’s something we all shape, every day - through our actions, our choices, and how we support each other.
