Despite Coronavirus, DIO is still working for Defence. As key workers, the MOD Guard Service are continuing to protect MOD sites across the country, keeping them safe in difficult conditions.
The Ministry of Defence Guard Service (MGS) is a professionally qualified body of civil servants who provide unarmed guarding services at over 100 MOD sites across Great Britain. The MGS has guarded the Defence Estate for over 25 years including high profile locations such as MOD Main Building in London and Her Majesty’s Naval Bases at Portsmouth, Devonport and the Clyde. The MGS plays a vital role supporting the Defence Mission and works closely with its security partners.
The MGS is part of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and employs over 2,000 operational and support staff. The MGS is managed by a senior team, dispersed strategically around the country.
MGS staff come from a variety of backgrounds and professions and bring a wealth of customer service and security experience.
MGS offer a broad range of interesting and challenging jobs, with a variety of working patterns, contributing directly to the UK’s Defence Mission.
MGS operational staff are fully trained to carry out a range of services including:
Control room and CCTV management
Security event coordination
To achieve their goals MGS need dedicated highly motivated people who are able to adapt to meet the complex range of threats and challenges in a rapidly changing world.MGS welcome applications from all sections of the community, especially those from black and minority ethnic candidates as they are underrepresented within the organisation. MGS recruit security officers and managers, admin support staff; programme and project managers and training and communications staff. MGS staff are broader banded civil servants and as such have many opportunities to develop and progress both within MOD and across the wider Civil Service.
The MGS is committed to creating an inclusive workplace and has been awarded the Committed 2 Equality Gold Award.
