Camden worked with me to find workable options to enable it to be part-time. That's what gives them the Timewise accreditation.

Emma imageEMMA'S STORY

Before Camden, I was working four days a week in the private sector but I wasn't happy with how little time I actually had with my family. So I started looking for another part-time role, and I was shocked at how few opportunities there were for a CIMA-qualified accountant with years of experience in finance.

I found Camden through Timewise and joined as a Capital Projects Business Partner.

Now, I’m a Team Leader. It was originally a full-time post but after I applied and was offered the job, Camden worked with me to find workable options to enable it to be part-time. That's what gives them the Timewise accreditation. They think differently. Because of that, you’ll find a much wider range of people working here.

I’ve got a bit more time to spend with my family now, as well as time to exercise (I love yoga!). Yet I hold a more senior position. It's a steep learning curve, but I’ve got a supportive team and manager. I also have access to external training support on everything from housing finance to housing policy.

I always think that if you want a role and you can do it, you should always apply.

Otherwise, you're just holding yourself back. I guess that's my rebellious side.

Camden’s rebellious spirit is its open-mindedness and flexibility – for people with families or elderly parents, as well as those who are studying or don't want to work full-time. That’s where Camden excels. Other companies will follow, but Camden is leading the way.

Once you start to encourage flexibility in your organisation, people see the benefit.

They’re more focused, because they've got the time they need outside work. The idea spreads when people see it working in action.

I really care about diversity and inclusion. I always have done. If the people you work with don't feel included, you won’t get the best out of them. That includes residents. The reason we’re here is to serve our community. They should be at the heart of everything we do.
