Transport Planner or Assistant Transport Planner to join our established North team, based in
Newcastle or Leeds.
Purpose & Scope of the Role Our people are at the heart of everything we do. You will join a well-established team delivering a wide variety of projects for clients across the private and public sectors, including housing and commercial developers, local and highway authorities, architects, town planners and other professionals.
Your work will primarily focus on development-related transport planning, including assisting with Transport Assessments, Travel Plans and transport chapters within EIAs. You will arrange traffic, pedestrian and cyclist surveys, undertake site visits, analyse and interpret data using Excel and GIS, support highway designs and help develop active travel, inclusive mobility and sustainable transport solutions.
Full support will be provided on a day-to-day basis by an experienced transport planning professional.
Your Impact in this position You will help turn data and site observations into practical transport solutions, supporting projects from initial assessment through to delivery. As your experience develops, you will build your technical knowledge of the UK planning process and use transport modelling and forecasting tools including TRICS, TEMPro, Junctions, LinSig and Transyt.
Core Capabilities Technical Analysis - Analyse, collate and interpret data, communicating your findings clearly.
Transport Planning - Support Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, EIAs and sustainable transport solutions.
Highway Design & Modelling - Assist with site access, junction and road designs, vehicle swept paths and transport modelling.
Communication & Collaboration - Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with colleagues as part of a project team.
Problem Solving & Development - Bring a methodical approach, attention to detail, drive to succeed and willingness to learn and get involved.
Training, Qualifications & Experience A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant subject such as transport planning, civil engineering or geography is preferred. Professional accreditation or membership of CIHT, CILT, TPP or ICE is beneficial. Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel is required, with opportunities to develop your use of AutoCAD, GIS and specialist transport planning software. Previous UK work experience would be beneficial.
Working Environment This is a full-time role based in
Newcastle or Leeds, with hybrid working allowing a mix of office and home working. Site visits will also form part of the role, providing the opportunity to observe real-world transport conditions and apply these to your technical work.
