This vacancy is only open to internal applicants This is a casual, one year appointment (may be extendable to two years).
Working hours may be on average 3-4 hours per week.
We are looking to appoint a Student Chaplaincy Worker on a short-term basis to help support and enhance the work of the Chaplaincy in the University, starting on Wednesday the 21st October 2026.
The successful applicant will be a current undergraduate or postgraduate student of the University and will be responsible for carrying out duties related to one of the specific areas of the Chaplaincy's work as well as co-operating with two other Student Chaplaincy Workers, the Chaplaincy Administrative Assistant, and the Dean of Chapel. This will involve:
- playing an active and supportive role in the preparation for, and delivery of, faith events, worship of both a formal and informal nature, and opportunities for reflection and dialogue;
- supporting and liaising with those who engage with, or would potentially be interested in, the above activities;
- taking a lead amongst Chaplaincy Workers in monitoring the University's worship/reflection areas and exploring how our Chaplaincy spaces can be accessible and welcoming to all, whilst also 'sacred' or special;
- helping with other activities organised by the Chaplaincy; and
- showing some level of commitment to welcoming members of the community to the Chaplaincy's programme of worship and prayer.
Applicants from all faith backgrounds (or none) are welcome, as long as they respect the University's Church foundation and the Chaplaincy's inclusive character.
The successful applicant will also have skills that can be used in the development of different media and resources in worship, be open to different approaches to worship, have an experience of working well in a team, be flexible enough to engage in occasional weekend or evening duties, and be at ease with a wide variety of religious outlooks.
