The apprentice cohort will come together regularly for additional key skill development and team building activities such as first aid training and personal financial guidance.

Service Planning Apprentice

We are looking for an apprentice to join our Service Planning team.

Throughout your Service Planning apprenticeship, we'll help you develop your skills and knowledge, while giving you the experience and exposure that'll ensure you're set up to enjoy an exciting and fulfilling TransPennine Express career. As an apprentice with us, you'll be doing a real role, taking on responsibility, and learning with our Service Planning department from day one. Working alongside experienced colleagues, including our Head of Planning Change you'll gain a wealth of experience as well as job specific skills. Full training and support will be provided, an example of a typical day in the job would be:
  • Getting up to speed with all aspects of Service Planning, including Timetables, Planning Rules, Traincrew terms and conditions, and Engineering Access rules.
  • Working with our Head of Planning Change on a range of projects around involving the timing new trains, amending the timings of existing trains, preparing traincrew diagrams and assessing diagram content.
  • Providing an excellent level of service and support to internal and external clients.
  • Shadowing and supporting team members with general duties.

Contracted hours for this role will be 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The role will mainly be based at our Head Office, in Manchester City Centre, a short walk from Oxford Road station, with the potential for travel across the network.

Interviews will be scheduled on 3 rd and 10 th July 2024 and the role will commence 9 th September 2024. Starting salary is £16,500.

About you

We're looking for someone with a positive attitude who is eager to learn and develop. The role requires problem solving, so if being able to spot problems and think creatively will benefit you in this position. A keen eye for detail is also a must.

Ideally, we are looking for someone with good numerical and communication skills. Also, an interest in geography would be a benefit to understand our network across the North and into Scotland. An understanding of Microsoft or Windows knowledge, specifically Teams, Excel and Word. As you will be working with a variety of different colleagues, we are looking for someone with effective communication skills and a helpful team player with a passion for problem solving. Being able to spot problems and think creatively will benefit you in this position, a keen eye for detail is also a must.
