Restructuring Lawyer, 3-7 years PQE, London

Brief

We are looking to recruit a Restructuring Lawyer between 3-7 years PQE with restructuring and insolvency experience to join our London office. The role will have an emphasis on transactional, restructuring and advisory work, but with an emphasis on debt restructuring and distressed debt aspects.

Candidates should have particular experience working on finance agreements, security and intercreditor arrangements in a distressed context.

Our London Team

Our London Team has a strong focus on a wide range of restructuring and insolvency matters across sectors such as, financial services, real estate, retail and education.

Our market-leading practice focuses on debt refinancings and restructurings, business restructurings and asset sales, restructuring and insolvency issues and is well supported by its integrated international network.

Our National Team

Nationally, our highly rated Restructuring team, part of our Banking and Finance group, advises financial institutions, turnaround and insolvency practitioners, company directors, shareholders and other stakeholders on strategies for recovery and turnaround. We act for all the major clearing banks as well as a wide variety of other lenders. We also act for specialist lenders and funds lending into distressed and other special situations, including administration funding.

The team is increasingly becoming involved in complex, high value restructurings at an early stage in the financial decline curve, with the aim of providing innovative solutions which improve returns to stakeholders and, in many cases, avoid an insolvency process altogether. We are building an increasing reputation for our special situations practice too, having been instructed on a number of high profile assignments where insolvency is not imminent but there is high risk/complexity.

Operating across the UK and beyond, the team has 14 partners and a team of 32 lawyers making it one of the largest teams of any practice.

  • Acting for Retail Realisation on the financial restructuring and ultimate administration of the Paperchase group.
  • Acting for Gordon Brothers and Aurelius as lenders on the take private and financial restructuring of French Connection.
  • Advising Nostrum Oil & Gas in connection with its $1bn Scheme of Arrangement, in particular around the structuring of its compromise of certain noteholders subject to sanctions by the UK Government.
  • Advising Modella Capital on the financial restructuring and ultimate administration of Ted Beker's UK business.
  • Advised FRP Advisory Limited as the joint administrators of Safe Hands Plans Limited, a pre-paid funeral provider to approximately 46,000 customers in the UK.

The Candidate Required

The successful candidate will ideally:
  • have gained experience in a City, or a strong national or regional, firm.
  • be technically excellent but equally important, commercially aware and enthusiastic about business development
  • be a team player with a strong client focussed approach
  • have a strong academic background and excellent communication and organisational skills.

  • developing on-going relationships with an existing client base as well as pitching for new opportunities;
  • developing close working relationships as part of an international team;
