Job overview

Applications are invited from individuals with experience in clinical research performance management and a strong understanding of data analysis and visualisation to join the Joint Research Management Office (JRMO).

The JRMO is a joint office which manages clinical research on behalf of Barts Health NHS Trust and Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). This is a very busy department within the JRMO, working with our researchers to ensure the research management and governance objectives of both organisations are met.

The post is based at the Joint Research Management Office, Dept. W, Mile End Road, with current onsite attendance requirement of 2 days per week (subject to change).

Main duties of the job

The Research Information Lead will lead the management, quality and use of research data, ensuring accurate and timely information is captured across the local portfolio management systems and other digital platforms. This will include oversight of research data systems, developing reports and provision of analytical insight to support operational performance, strategic planning and regulatory requirements.

They will support the senior management by delivering clear, reliable reporting on research activity and performance. The role will also provide training and guidance to JRMO and research staff across Barts Health and Queen Mary on the effective use of digital research systems.

The post holder will ensure that all research information is managed in line with Information Governance and Data Protection standards, maintaining high levels of data quality, integrity and compliance.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent level of ability/experience
  • A relevant specialist qualification (e.g. in health information or a related field) or equivalent experience of information handling and analysis gained in a work environment


Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of clinical and/or NHS research management
  • Experience in monitoring data quality and producing data quality reports
  • Experience in report production and data visualisation


Desirable criteria
  • Experience in Line Management


Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Specialist knowledge of databases and Information systems such as EDGE.
  • Knowledge of the NIHR and its objectives
  • Relational database design, including query and report design
  • Knowledge of data integrity methods and techniques


Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of visual data analytics such as PowerBI or QlickView
  • Knowledge of governance and legislative framework for conducting clinical research studies


Skills

Essential criteria
  • Proven interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical and numeracy skills with the ability to interpret research management information and support decision-making
  • Ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement to solve problems creatively and flexibly
  • Ability to manage and manipulate large datasets
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly in the use of Web applications and MS Office applications.
  • Ability to create accurate and highly visual data for reports, presentations and newsletters
  • Flexible approach to working and a desire to develop knowledge
  • Attention to detail
  • Understanding of issues relating to confidentiality and data protection.
  • Ability to remain calm in a busy and stressful environment, working accurately under pressure and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to initiate and maintain quality control systems for information being used for reporting purposes
  • Ability to train researchers and JRMO staff in the use of research databases
  • Ability to draft R&D guidance documents and user manuals
