This is a full time/ fixed term contract for 8 months from January 2027

About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Research Fellow to join an exciting collaborative project focused on advancing a novel antimicrobial urinary catheter coating towards market and regulatory readiness.

In this role, you will lead laboratory-based research to generate the biocompatibility, safety and performance data required to support the development of next-generation infection-resistant medical devices. You will work at the interface of biomaterials, cell biology and medical device evaluation, applying recognised standards and in vitro models to assess the safety and effectiveness of innovative antimicrobial technologies.

You will have significant hands-on experience of mammalian cell culture and biological testing, ideally with knowledge of medical device biocompatibility assessment and relevant ISO 10993 standards. Working closely with academic researchers and an industrial partner, you will design and conduct experiments, analyse and interpret data, and contribute to reports, publications and presentations that support technology translation and commercialisation.

This is an excellent opportunity to apply your expertise to a project with clear clinical and commercial impact, helping to address the global challenge of device-associated infections. You will join an interdisciplinary research environment and gain experience of industry collaboration, regulatory science and translational medical device research.

The role is fixed term for 8 months and is funded through the National Biofilms Innovation Centre (NBIC) Industrial Challenge Response Fund.
