Reporting to the Product Line Director; this is a Product Management role within the Optical product line, responsibility for Colt's Wavelength services.
This role, within a key growth area of Colt's networking portfolio, will include:
Product Management responsibility for Colt Wave (metro and long-haul wavelength services), plus Private Wave (Colt's private, dedicated optical solutions business)
Definition and ownership of the overall proposition and product specifications - including pricing strategy, market positioning and customer experience
Definition of product specifications to drive product developments and roadmap
Full product P&L ownership of the product line by tracking costs and revenue performance and pricing strategy.
Execution of product / feature launches
Support for Colt's sales and pre-sales teams to drive the commercial success of the product
Evangelize the Colt proposition externally
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Manage and maintain the Wave portfolio, ensuring that product capabilities meet current market requirements
Define and document product roadmap developments and enhancements, and initiate / sponsor respective product developments.
Further standardise product offerings where required in order to facilitate sales.
Mobile Backhaul: Support development of Colt's mobile front/backhaul propositions, leveraging optical services as necessary
Be the product expert for the services, both technically and commercially. Understand the wider market context for wavelength services in order to maximise Colt's commercial success in the market
Support major customer opportunities and act as a trusted advisor to key sales stakeholders. Participate in sales approval process for major bids as required.
Maintain (and create, where necessary) product collateral to a high standard, including commercial terms and conditions
Own pricing strategy, and provide pricing guidance to deal pricing and sales teams as required. Gather competitor pricing intelligence in order to advise on appropriate list pricing.
Be the product evangelist both internally and externally (for example, taking speaking opportunities at appropriate product forums and customer events) for the respective product lines
Monitor and report on the commercial performance of the respective products, and actively implement initiatives designed to drive sales
Track and report regularly on the product business performance and create dashboards, executive reports and initiative business actions to enhance product performance
Ideally, 5 years' experience in a Product Management (or similar) role in a telecommunications or IT environment. This may also include Product or Portfolio Management, Technical Pre-sales, Product Marketing, or Telecommunications Engineering.
Knowledge of DWDM networking technologies, fibre, telecommunications infrastructure, transport networking services, and the relevant marketplace (Competition, customer profiles, key vendors / suppliers)
Familiar with the global wholesale telecommunications marketplace, with specific knowledge of Global Content Networks (GCN) and/or Carrier backbone networking requirements being advantageous
Excellent English language and articulation skills (verbal and written), plus some experience in delivering presentations will be advantageous
Being able to clearly present and position complex topics from a customer perspective
Comfortable with P&L analysis and financial modelling
Recent, relevant experience working within the optical and transport networking industry, or a closely related discipline
Degree or equivalent in a related business or technical field
A Professional Qualification in a related discipline is preferable
