About the Role

Payroll Administrator

Permanent position

Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria

The Role:
To support the accurate, timely and compliant delivery of payroll services by maintaining payroll information, assisting with payroll processing and responding to payroll-related queries. The role contributes to effective employee pay administration, reliable payroll data and a positive service experience for employees and stakeholders.

Key Duties and responsibilities:
• Support the accurate and timely processing of monthly and quarterly payrolls, including UK, Guernsey and the Philippines, ensuring payroll activities are completed in line with agreed deadlines and controls.
• Process Real Time Information submissions to HMRC within legislative deadlines and support compliance with other relevant government and statutory reporting requirements.
• Create, maintain and reconcile accurate payroll and statutory records, including third-party payments, deductions and associated filing requirements.
• Administer company pension processes, ensuring pension data, deductions and related submissions are accurate and completed on time.
• Support payroll year-end activity, including P11D preparation and submission, ensuring outputs are accurate and compliant with relevant requirements.
• Respond to payroll-related queries from employees, managers and the wider business, working with HR and other stakeholders to promote consistent group-wide processes and standards.
• Maintain accurate, complete and auditable payroll records, supporting internal controls, audit requirements and data integrity.
• Support overseas payroll processing as required, working with overseas payroll providers and subject matter experts to ensure accurate and timely payroll delivery.
Key skills, knowledge and experience:
• Previous experience in payroll administration.
• Good working knowledge of payroll processes, statutory deductions, pension administration and payroll-related compliance requirements.
• Understanding of UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, National Insurance, Real Time Information submissions and year-end payroll requirements.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with the ability to process, check and reconcile payroll data within agreed deadlines.
• Confident using payroll systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, to maintain records, analyse data and support reporting.
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workload, manage routine deadlines and respond effectively to payroll queries.
• Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with HR, Finance, employees, managers and external payroll providers.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maintain accurate, secure and auditable records.
