About the Opportunity

The Materials Science and Structural Integrity (MSSI) group are at the forefront of knowledge for our chosen field; leading research, solving critical client challenges and setting industry standards at our research facilities. Our scientists and engineers work across a broad range of structural integrity disciplines spanning metallurgy, materials science, corrosion science, stress analysis, structural integrity analysis/assessment, structural and mechanical engineering, non-destructive examination and advanced manufacturing processes. These services are provided to a range of customers, mainly but not exclusively in the nuclear industry, to ensure the economic and safe operation of capital-intensive plant, from both government and private industry.

This is an excellent opportunity for a suitable individual to join the Monitoring and Inspection Design (MID) Team within our Material Science and Structural Integrity (MSSI) team as an NDE consultant, based at our Birchwood Park office near Warrington in Cheshire, UK. MID provides inspection design and assessment to support clients in their application of effective NDE on plant. The MID team has specific strengths in inspection research and development, data collection and analysis, the assessment of the capability of NDE and monitoring systems, inspection modelling, and site implementation.

Recent work included the development and justification of the performance of bespoke NDE inspections within the nuclear power generation market.

What you will be doing:
  • With guidance performs inspection research, development and applications, completing assigned tasks to time, cost and quality
  • Produces fit-for-purpose deliverables such as technical reports, conclusions, recommendations and advice to customers
  • Pro-actively interacts and collaborates with project team, supplier, other organisations and customer contacts as appropriate
  • Responsible for timely and accurate completion of own allocated tasks
  • Fulfils role in keeping with business requirements for health, safety, environment, security and quality
  • Responsible for ensuring delivered work is of required standard


Here's What You'll Need:

  • Degree (Level 6 or equivalent) in relevant Scientific or Engineering subject
  • Working towards membership of a professional institution is desirable (IEng)
  • Experience in design, development and solving problems including modelling
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • PCN level 2 qualification is preferred, though a desire to learn/be qualified is paramount
