Position Summary

Science team at AIG develops AI-first products (apps and services that use machine learning to inform and assist their users) for both the insurance and investment arms of AIG. This is mainly achieved through:

Incubation of disruptive innovation (through scientists, engineers and designers working together) Machine learning R&D (and publication in top AI/ML conferences and journals) Machine-learning advisory / consultancy to AIG's global businesses

The resulting solutions and innovations aim to reinvent AIGs internal processes, improve AIGs offerings to its clients (in line with the companys mission to be its clients most valued insurer), and ultimately disrupt the wider insurance industry.

As a critical role in Sciences success, we are looking to hire Machine Learning Engineers to join our team and contribute to the development of disruptive apps / products.

This is an exciting opportunity for those who want to enjoy state-of-the-art R&D and be challenged and grow in the field of œAI-first software / product development; along the way this role will contribute to game-changing products for the multi-trillion-dollar insurance industry and use AIGs (the worlds largest insurer by many metrics) global network to deliver impact and change.

Responsibilities and Performance Objectives
  • Take ownership of a significant part of the teams solution development
  • Demonstrate end-to-end understanding of applications (including, but not limited to, the ML algorithms) being created
  • Partner with ML researchers to push the boundaries on the performance of the latest methods applied to big problems within domains of insurance / investments
  • Contribute to Peer Review process to ensure code quality
  • Play an active role in the development and delivery of the teams technology roadmap, and the design and delivery of necessary trainings and workshops.

The minimum required skills include:
  • Self-motivated and creative; were building new products from ground up, not tweaking legacy
  • Ability to formalize learning problems with mathematical notation
  • Hands-on experience solving machine learning problems
  • Solid understanding of algorithms and data structures
  • Detailed knowledge of ML evaluation metrics and best-practice
  • Strong Python coding skills plus experience of a typed language (e.g., C++ and Java)
  • Engineering for scale using cloud platforms (e.g., Amazon Web Services)
  • Up to date knowledge of ML literature
  • Familiarity with build automation and continuous integration (e.g., Gulp, Grunt, Jenkins, CodePipeline)
  • Good communicator and team player

An ideal candidate (is not required to, but) will also have
  • Linux SysAdmin skills
  • Messaging (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, ZeroMQ)
  • Distributed Systems tools (e.g., Etcd, zookeeper, consul)
  • Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform, Cloudformation etc)
  • Portfolio of past experience (e.g., blogs, talks, contributions to Open Source, Kaggle)
