Job summary

The post is a 6 month fixed term contract in Upper GI covering maternity leave (December 26 - June 2027).

This role includes an on-call commitment of 1 in 10, ensuring you can focus on providing exceptional care without the distractions of elective activities while on call.

If you hold GMC Registration, possess relevant clinical and surgical experience in colorectal and general surgery, and are eager to mentor junior medical staff, we want to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

As an Upper GI Surgeon, you will have a range of responsibilities, including:

o Full clinical responsibility for Upper GI and general surgical patients.

o Promoting the further development of Upper GI surgical services.

o Supporting the development of clinical governance and using audit findings to enhance the quality of treatment and minimize clinical risk.

o Collaborating with colleagues to achieve the collective goals of the department.

o Developing innovative working practices and supporting the growing clinical contributions of non-medical staff.

o Supervising and managing junior medical staff.

o Assisting in the teaching and training of junior staff and contributing to postgraduate medical education.

o Work with the Clinical Directorate management team to ensure that national targets and quality standards are met.
