A vacant position has arisen within the department ofRespiratory Medicine & Allergy at St. Bartholomew'sHospital for a full time AA & ILD Lead Nurse. This postcombines the delivery of clinical care within therespective Allergy and Severe Ashma services withleadership of the Clinical Nurse Specialist Team. TheAllergy service is a Royal College of PhysiciansImproving Quality in Allergy Services (IQAS)accredited Centre and the combined Severe Asthma &Allergy services is a World Allergy Organisation(WAO)-designated Centre of Excellence for 20262029. The postholder should be highly specialised inAllergy and/or Asthma and will be expected toundertake 50% of their working time within bothspecialities. The details will be outlined in a job planagreed with the post holder on appointment. The postholder will be expected to undertake regular or at leastone fixed Allergy Challenge session per week as partof their role. The remaining clinical aspect of the rolewill be tailored to their existing expertise.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder would provide leadership and vision todevelop the current nurse-led services, with the aim offuture expansion in nurse-led clinics for specific groupsof patients within Allergy and Severe Asthma & ILDallowing CNS-led care autonomously within therelevant multidisciplinary team(s). In addition, they willbe expected to provide leadership and day-to-daymanagement in the following areas: 1) the Asthma &Allergy Day Case Unit, a high throughput locationwhere the nurse-led biologics injections and hot clinicstake place, as well as challenge testing, which isconsultant-led 2) Clinic 1- where the nurse-ledimmunotherapy injection service takes place.They would work in partnership with the multiprofessional team to build evidence- based pathways.Within this their role will include extending scope ofnursing practice and developing an expert level ofprofessional autonomy and accountability in theprovision of such care.They would also provide leadership in clinicalgovernance and monitoring the quality ofnurse-led care, provide leadership andmentorship for the nursing team, as well asleadership in quality improvement projects.They will participate in Allergy ClinicalGovernance Meetings and Respiratory Auditafternoons.
