About the Opportunity

Jacobs Engineering is the Nuclear Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield Ltd under the Programme and Project Partners (PPP).

PPP is an exciting model to work in with Four world class organisations who have come together as one team, to create a clean and safe environment for future generations. The programme arrangement is set to deliver ~£7bn worth of major projects creating a lasting legacy through the long-term partnerships.

Being part of the PPP Team offers a unique opportunity to cultivate change and creativity in engineering, safety, and delivery solutions in one of the most complex industrial sites in the UK, if not the world.

We are currently looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join the Lightly Shielded Store Project (LSS1) to be based out of Birchwood.

The role will lead a team of engineers and designers, and to ensure engineering, execution and delivery of the discipline to time, cost, and quality.

You will be expected to;
  • Deliver a safe, fit-for-purpose, fully integrated and operable design solution that meets product requirements, and includes appropriate validation and verification.
  • Ensure solutions meet all discipline-related legal requirements including CDM, safety, security, environmental and site licence conditions, and that deliverables and solutions generated are adequately underpinned.
  • Adopt validation and verification practices for key aspects of work to ensure that the design meets all functional, safety and environmental requirements and is integrated with other design disciplines.
  • Support the Project Engineering Manager in providing engineering design support to work scope definition throughout procurement, construction and commissioning project phases.
  • Coordinate discipline-related input to the derivation of requirements and capabilities for Areas, Systems and Products.
  • Develop and update cost and time estimates for delivery of the discipline-related design solution.
  • Lead and manage discipline-specific design resources


Here's What You'll Need:

  • Significant of post-graduate work experience in a highly regulated industry, ideally some of it in the nuclear industry
  • Degree Qualification or equivalent qualification in a relevant technical or business discipline
  • Detail design knowledge of mechanical mechanisms or bespoke equipment.
  • Demonstrated record of maintaining own skills and knowledge at the forefront of the field Knowledge of delivering against legislative, regulatory and company policy standards and procedures e.g. safety, quality, risk, security
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant drawing standards
