Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.
Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.
We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.
Job overviewThis is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the day-to-day operational management of services within the Theatres and Anaesthetics directorate.
Supporting the delivery of high-quality patient services and ensuring the efficient use of outpatient clinic and theatre capacity. You will take ownership of waiting list validation and performance data, helping to drive service efficiency and support the achievement of key operational targets.
Working closely with the Assistant Service Manager, you will lead on a range of projects and service improvement initiatives, using data and insight to identify opportunities for change and deliver positive outcomes for patients and staff. You will collaborate with colleagues across the Directorate and wider Trust, building strong relationships to support innovation and continuous improvement.
This role is ideal for a motivated and proactive individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, leading improvements, and making a tangible impact on service delivery and patient experience.
Main duties of the jobTo support the Assistant Service Manager in the day-to-day operational management of services within the Theatres and Anaesthetics directorate. This includes an immediate priority to support Patient Access, Pre-Assessment and Theatres. Future service development will empower the post holder to further support Anaesthetics, Critical Care and Pain Management.
Main areas of support will include; ensuring that outpatient clinics and theatre lists are fully utilised, validation and management of waiting lists and other data is consistent and in line with Trust data quality standards.
To line manage administrative staff, ensuring that their workload is managed appropriately and completed to a high standard. To ensure that appraisals, leave and performance is consistently managed across the team.
To lead on individual projects and participate in service improvements, including providing analysis on data and information and liaising with other staff across the directorate and wider Trust.

Person specificationQualifications Essential criteria - GCSE English or equivalent
Desirable criteria - Attendance at leadership course or leadership/management qualification
Knowledge Essential criteria - Experience working in a healthcare environment, particularly liaising with patients
- Experience of working in a busy office environment
Desirable criteria - Knowledge of the patient administration system
- Experience of managing staff
Communication Skills Essential criteria - Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, to all levels and disciplines of staff and outside agencies
