The Opportunity

We are seeking a professional and customer-focused Human Resources Officer to join our Human Resources team at Barnsley College.

This is an excellent opportunity for an HR professional looking to develop their career within a busy and supportive environment. As a key member of the HR team, you will provide high-quality advice and support to managers and employees across a wide range of HR activities, helping to ensure the delivery of an effective and responsive HR service.

Working closely with HR Business Partners and colleagues across the College, you will be involved in a variety of employee relations matters, including sickness absence management, disciplinary and grievance procedures, recruitment activities and HR administration. You will play an important role in supporting managers with first-line HR advice and guidance, ensuring policies and procedures are applied consistently and effectively.

You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate employee records, monitoring and reporting on key workforce data, supporting salary administration processes and contributing to the development of HR policies and initiatives. In addition, you will help promote the College's wellbeing and employee benefits offer, supporting activities that enhance the employee experience.

About You

We are looking for an organised and approachable HR professional who is passionate about delivering excellent customer service and providing practical people-focused solutions.

You will have experience working within a Human Resources environment and will be confident advising managers and employees on a range of HR matters. You will possess a good understanding of employment legislation, HR procedures and best practice, alongside strong interpersonal skills that enable you to build effective working relationships at all levels.

You will be highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities, analyse information and maintain accurate records. Strong IT skills are essential, including experience using HR systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

The successful candidate will be proactive, discreet and professional when handling sensitive and confidential information. You will be able to work independently, use your initiative and contribute positively as part of a busy and supportive HR team.

Required
  • Relevant Level 3 qualification
  • Level 3 HR qualification (or commitment to achieve within an agreed timescale)
  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2 qualification)
  • Experience of working within a Human Resources environment
  • Experience of HR procedures, including disciplinary and grievance processes
  • Experience of maintaining HR systems and employee records
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and the ability to analyse data and produce reports
  • Knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practice
  • Ability to prioritise workloads, use initiative and provide advice and guidance to managers
